"Old Man Emu" suspension

Not another suspension thread!!!
Oh well ARB have finally got OME suspension package's
I had there front struts / shocks fitted to my Nav today.....I already had EFS suspension fitted rear springs and shocks, but only the springs fitted to the front. Then I had to wait for someone to get some front shocks......and that was ARB. $208 each

The new shocks make the ride a lot better.....havent topped them out yet (topped out all the time before).....they are exposed to be longer travelling than standard.....unfortunately i was unable to compare the 2 out of the truck......but with the front wheel jacked off the ground the A-arm misses the bucket by about 4mm now, so it would be pointless having any more travel unless you did some butchering or get a different A-arm.

ARB in Brisbane have a diesel D40 with steel bull bar.........it had the full OME suspension upgrade this week..........cant say i'm impressed.....the front was only lifted 20mm and the rear a little over 50mm........instead of being level it is a lot higher at the back. The rear springs look like they were just hacked together......maybe its just a prototype.......but the EFS springs on my truck look a lot better quality.....but I'm no expert.

Going to Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island this week end and give it a good test.

Good to hear that you finally got them fitted. I hope to get some ordered over the next few weeks. Will probably do something similar to you with ARB front and EFS rear. I gather you kept the EFS front springs?

How about some photos? and make sure to let us know how you get on with the trip to the beach!

Hi Nav, good to hear the fronts not topping out any more. Have you still got the EFS springs in the front? Enjoy Fraser island mate and take a swim in one of the creek's and good luck with your fishing. Are you camping on Fraser? you lucky bugger, post some pics of the Navara on the beach. Im sure you'll notice an improvement offroad in the ride. It's quite a surprise how much of a difference better damped shocks give compared to stock.

I kept the EFS front springs......in fact the only reason i got OME front shocks was they were the only ones available at this time............personally I think ARB are a bunch of stuck up arrogant pricks (just my personal opinion).

EFS gives you a 100 000 km/3 year warranty (ARB 40k/2year).....both source there front springs from King springs......ARB would have you believe that there's is some how better.......I did ring Kings and they didn't mention there was any difference (they make 3 standard 10mm lift, mid duty 40mm,heavey duty 40mm).....the man from Kings did say he would custom build a set of springs to your requirements..........the final height will be dictated by the amount of weight on the front....diesel steel block/ V6 alloy block....steel bull bar etc....

The man from EFS said they source there front shocks from the same place as OME.......but I dont know if there is any difference.....obviously ARB think theres is far superior.....must be the paint.lol.

The only issue i had with EFS rear leafs were that the front military wrap rubbed (creaked) on the chassis at the front mount on one side.......Tommo had the same problem with Dobinsons......he just cut some off .....i just spray some lube now and again.....but EFS rear shocks work great .......do get extra travel and had to extend the brake hose's to suit.

The main thing is to get the height ,load capacity and ride that you want.

I don't know, these blokes that start new threads on shock's all the time.......joking!
Just to save me starting a new thread, Ultimate suspension have their front mono tube shocks with 40mm lift for $269each and rear mono tube shock's with 50mm lift for $239each. Also front coils $220 and rear springs at $964 or imported rears for $400!

Come on Digger what are ya waiting for???? (Dont know if I would want mono tubes on the back in case a rock flicked up and dinted one.....but in the front they would be great)

Gave my suspension a good working over at Fraser......although the rear heavy duty springs bounced around a lot when i didn't have any weight in the back (much better loaded up). The front was great......in fact it was better than great.....it was bweautiful mate.
Last time I was on Fraser we were in my old 97 luxy and the family hated it (the ride that is) bounced around everywhere............now much smoother......in fact my 7 year old daughter managed to go to sleep while driving on a track...........and even driving on one of the corrugated, potholed dirt roads outside rainbow was a smooth ride.

O.K! I have done it, I went too the Melbourne 4x4 show on Sunday to see what was available. And walk away with a deposit down on some new TJM suspension! Yes that's right TJM do have there suspension out. It has 40mm lift in front and 50mm lift at rear just waiting now for it to be delivered to my dealer. It cost me $1465.60 plus it will cost about $350.00 to install. Also found out why it has been taking so long to get front shocks. At the bottom of the shocks you have like a stem with the lower connecting bush on it, that stem used to be 14mm in dia. But Nissan found that they where starting to bend so the made the stem 16mm in dia so all the shocks that where made by other companys had to be done again with 16mm dia stem's.
Also Lovell's had a stand down here and I asked them about there suspension, they said to me that they have 2 prototype suspension's on vehicle's and also that you can get rear spring's but no front just as yet( in there word's!)
RidePro are still 3week's away from their release because of that stem problem.

Its about bloody time to ....your worse at making up your mind than the Mrs....lol.
Thanks for the word up on the hold up ....dont know why nobody bothered letting people know earlier.
I'm liking mine since the front shocks were installed.
Just check the rear brake lines mine needed to be extended by 80mm.
Were there any other good bits for sale or coming out soon for the D40 at the show.

Cool

No more new bit's that I could see that we already don't know about.
Most product's where between 10% to 25% off RRP. There was four Navara D40 models on display from ARB, TJM , Carryboy canopies and Nissan. Not a bad show but alot of the same old stuff.
