I always liked the diesel for when I went 4wd haven't done much with this one yet. At the moment if I had a free choice to go back to diesel. I would stay with petrol. I am not sure on the 2.5lt motor doing all that work. Had a 3lt patrol and it went bang at 115,000km. Had a new engine put in by Nissan after having a few words with them. So have been wary of small diesels in big cars. A new 4.2 Turbo Patrol would nice with more boost and maybe a bit if LPG, but set something like that would cost over $60,000.

iv got a D22 Navara 3.0L petrol,iv been averaging 12L per 100km. Which for city driving i think is pretty good.I dont carry any weight though but still. My bro has a diesel D22, it would be better on fuel but havent done the sums,my 2 cents

Somewhere I heard that the fuel light is supposed to come on around 1/8 of a tank left. Not sure where I heard that though at the moment.

My Dec 07 2.5 TD with only 3,000k on the clock is averaging 12/100. The last tank is the lowest have I let it go according to the gauge. By looking at the gauge approx 1/8 of a tank, no light yet and 65 litres went in for that tanks average of 11.4. $101 to fill up at $1.54 I think it was. I usually get ~220 k's from the first 1/4 tank then it's like someone has just poked a hole in the tank after that. Going to a run to Perth on Saturday(420 k's from here) curious to see if it gets any better than the 11.1 from the tank I used driving it home from the dealer in Perth. This is my first ever Diesel and frankly I love it compared to the 410 k's from 70 litres my 94 pathfinder got or the even worse 320 from 75 litres my higher modded Jeep Wrangler got. :P

My fuel light is coming on with almost 30 liters left in the tank.Fuel gauge is basically useless and seems it is only correct in 2 positions , Empty and Full.
Scangauge tells me how much fuel is left or used and its so far been spot on.
Round town I run anywhere from 13l/100 to 14.5/100 .
In a truck this size and my driving style thats not shabby .

I ran out of fuel at the entrance to the servo a couple of months back. Just enough momentum to get to the bowser. 76.1 litres I got so that's what I have set scanguage up at.

I'm usually around the mid-high tens/100km (turbo diesel).
