140 liters

Well I got my long range tank fitted yesterday.

Now I know I said it was going to be a 160l unit but here is the story.

160l unit ordered, but didnt arrive in time for my one day off to get it fitted(2 hour trip to get there for me), lucky I phoned first so I told him to call when it had arrived and I would arrange some time to get down and get it fitted.

No call so I asked my local guy in town, biggest he can get is a 140l, price is almost the same(bit lower) but fit cost $100 bucks less so I say go for it.
He makes the call to order it, one has just been finished and is ready to go, leaves Perth next day and is here two days later (long trip trust me) being local I can get in as soon as he had time for the fitting so long story short (too late I know) its in.

No pics yet, but looking at it the only way I can see it is through the rear passenger wheel arch, doesnt hang low or buldge out anywhere.

The filling was painfull, $1.58 per/l for desiel here, but will be intersting to see how many k's per tank I get back.
If it all works ok I am guessing about 1200k's
Have about 5 weeks of work left before a trip so will keep an eye on the town driving compared to the long haul, will have about 10'000k's to do for my 4 week holiday, cant wait.

That's awesome. I have been hoping, in the future, to be able to leave the stock tank in, add another tank where the spare tire goes, and then if there is room to put in another tank on the right side underneath the bed of the truck and have them all made into one tank. That would be a lot of gallons and would also weigh the truck down in the bed for any winters I might hopefully come across in the future. Definately post pics!!!

Careful with the gas tank in the rear as it could explode if rear ended. Its easy for a car to get up under a pick up and that is one of the main reasons they don't put them there.

Ahhh but they do put them under the rear.

In Australia anyways.

There is a 65 litre tank I can get to sit in the spare wheel well, this retains the spare tyre mount, so the spare doesnt have to sit into the tray just hangs a touch lower.

No photo of it on the web site but here is their spruik

Navara D40 65Lt Aux Tank
FTN51aux
General Description
Nissan Navara D40 65 Lt Auxiliary Tank (Stainless Steel)
Detailed Description

Technical Specifications
Suits Petrol & Diesel, Will NOT fit 2WD models This 65 litre Auxiliary tank is made from stainless steel and fits above the spare wheel (the spare wheel is retained in the same location and then winches up under the tank) The tank is filled via the standard filler (no holes or extra caps etc) and the fuel is fed into the main fuel tank via a hose using gravity. So in operation it is just like having one larger fuel tank. The filling, usage and even the fuel gauge all work just as in the standard vehicle except of course the fuel gauge takes longer to get to empty.

Yes, True. Aftermarket tanks may go there but the Automakers won't put fuel tanks there on trucks. I wd just be concered if it is high enough for a rear end collision.

Sounds like a neat concept though for extra fuel storage.

ok, quick run down

Here to Perth is 2200's one way then onto Bunbury another 200, then to Margaret river another 200.
From there day trips all over the place maybe as far as Albany which is 400k's

then back home so it will all add up real quick.

Oh and IF I was coming to your place you would have to make sure the trip was worth it.
Beer might be a start.... but beer alone does not make a night

chips might help

lmao

So there are no fuel stops in the great AU?

I'll be curious to see how many MPG you loose with the extra weight of all that fuel... Not to mention the stainless...

And diesel is far less reactive than gasoline, so the risk of hollywood style explosions in a gunfight/hijacking/ or the boring car accident is minimal.

there are fuel stops but some of them are 600k's apart, and the isolated ones like to add to the cost of fuel by up to 30c per/litre. Especially during the peak tourist times, they know they will get it as there is no where else to go.

And its been many a year since we had a good old gun fight out here in the west,
