Quote. What next?

So I got a very appealing quote of $19xxx for an 08 king cab nismo. I asked three other places for a quote. One has yet to respond, and the other two said I need to fill out an app or just generally be more serious before we start talking numbers. What is the next step in the process? What chance do I stand of getting the price lower? I think they are still willing to go down more, but $19k for a starting number is pretty darn good. Any hints or opinions will be very much appreciated!

I always bring my down payment in cash- make up some bs # from another dealership and tell them thats what youre working with, and that you were stopping by to see if they could beat it before you buy the other one TODAY.

If it is 18XXX or 18xxx sounds like a pretty good price, check out what happened to the rebates they are currently offering.

When I was dealing on mine the salesman wanted me to sign a little statement that he wrote that basically said that if they met my price I would def. buy it. I told him I wouldn't sign it. He said it was just so the sales manager knows that I am serious. I told my sales guy, "You go back there and TELL him I'm serious." He did just that, they met my price and I bought the truck. The most important thing is don't be pushed around. You're in charge.

First thing they always ask you is "what do you want your payment to be".
Don't let them pull that baloney on you, because all they are trying to do is push you out beyond the normal 3 or 4 years of payments if the first number they give you is too high (meaning monthly payment number).

Never take a vehicle payment for more than say 60 months at the most. The interest alone is reason enough. If you can't afford it at 5 years or less of payments than you just can't afford it.

With all that said I always do my homework and always know if the vehicle is a good deal as is or not. If not, tell them what you are willing to pay for it. If they go for it great, if not, next dealership.

Dealing for the Fronty I was calling around and told every single salesperson I talked to that I wanted their absolute best price first time, that they only had one shot because they weren't the only dealership I was working with to acquire a vehicle. I had one sales guy call me back with a better price after I declined their first offer. I simply explained to him that my time (and his) was more valuable than squabbling over prices and he missed his chance. The second offer wasn't much better anyway once he finely convinced me to listen to him AGAIN. So I did the honorable thing and lied and said I already had a vehicle and not to bother calling me any more.

Let them know you are serious about purchasing and don't want to play any games. I'd say that is key.

Yes, I like to deal with one transaction at a time. They try their best to mix and match things by asking you questions like "do you have a trade in", "are you financing through us?" If you play into their game, you lose in the end.

You have to get the best price for what you're buying before you talk about trade ins or financing. That's the only way you'll know exactly how much you can get for your trade in. Don't fall in love with a vehicle. Do lots of homework including insurance quotes. I learn new things every time I go to buy a new vehicle.

I've done so much homework I am answering questions the salesman has. It is pretty frustrating, but it is very intimidating, or at least levels the playing field when they know that YOU are an educated consumer, not just someone looking for a "pretty pickup." I haven't pushed numbers yet, because I do need to close on the house- (2 hours away! ) and couldn't commit to anything right now.

Luckily, I can't fall in love with these pickups because they're not exactly what I wanted, but they are pretty darn close, and now I think it would be better than the one I originally wanted, so I am well equipped to play disappointed. Thanks for all the info! I've heard the "what kind of payments are you looking for?" several times, and I say "around $17k.

They want to make money, you want the best deal you can get. It's essentially a battle of finances. Being educated is the best offense and defense for sure.

I have one of those amortization calculators I found online (attached below, hope it helps somebody). I threw numbers around in that thing for better than a week changing down payments, interest rates, payment terms. I knew within $5-10 dollars what a $1,000 fluctuation did to my monthly payment right in my head.

(You'll have to download and unzip the Excel file to use it, oh, and have Excel too duh!)

If you do download and check out the payment calculator, there are 3 sheets/tabs to it. Take a look at the interest numbers for 36 months vs. 60 months. You'll poop your pants if you're working with a considerable sum borrowed.
