Thumbs down Mossy Nissan Oceanside, CA

A friend's Maxima's check engine light went on, so we took it to the dealership. They said the catalyst system and all 4 O2 sensors needed to be replaced at the tune of $2000. I argued with the rep. over the phone and he used the "I've been doing this for 20 years" credential. I told him don't do anything. We picked it up and used a code scanner from Autozone for free. Pulled only one code that one cat was operating at low efficiency. After using the "Guaranteed to Pass" fuel system cleaner, the check engine light went out and stayed out for a month. Maybe one of the cats needs to be replaced, but not all 4 O2 sensors, which was $800 of the cost. Rip off artists!

In an unrelated incident, another friend took her new Murano in for her first oil change, and got it back with huge chips of paint missing from the hatch around the rear tail lamps. Of course they didn't know how it happened and claimed no responsibility. A$$ clowns!

Really?! That sounds exactly like Capistrano Nissan, CA . I don't even know why I bother going there anymore. Although, when they take your car in for service they note all the dings and scratches on the car and have you sign off on it. It is really to cover their a***s but I can see how someone could use this against them in a case like your friends Murano.

that is where dealerships make the majority of their revenue...through the parts & service departments...oh and of course the useless extended warranties, lowjack, etc etc they try to sell you when you buy a vehicle.
dont get me wrong, they make money on vehicle sales but not nearly as much as everything else.....pretty much like JiffyLube or other places that do oil changes....come in for an oil change and the "technician" comes out and throws a sales pitch at you saying you need a new airfilter, transmission fluid...blah blah blah!! charge you $20 for a $5 airfilter

i taken my truck to falore nissan and they where really good. i had a couple of minor issues with my truck and they had 2 different technicians take my truck out for test drive after the oil change to try to identify the issues, 20 miles worth of test drive and fix things under warranty.

on the same note, i've taken my truck previously to steven's creek nissan complaining about the same issues, they took my truck for 5 hours, then called me telling me nothing's wrong. i came back to pick the truck up and only 3 miles had rolled on the odometer...

Nissan claims "factory trained technicians" but it sort of looks like they cruise the HomeDepot parking lot for "trained technicians" who are standing around unemployed. This is why the vehicles are getting damaged - the techs don't look trained:

1) too young

2) half barely speak English

Just a couple observations

pretty much like contractors......out of about 30 mechanics only one is really certified but he/she is just there to supervise...

Can't be as bad as having your driver's door smashed by a neighboring car lift as it was being lowered, which is exactly what happened to me at the Nissan dealer in Miami on my 4 day old car.

Oceanrock is a military town so rip offs are common. What year was the Maxima and how many miles on it?
