OK, here's a shot of the back of the pop rivet - not a thing of beauty but it should hold.

(the paint chips are because someone forgot to put smooth jaw protectors in his vice )

Some RTV would hold the clip in place once it cures.

Please be aware that if by chance you are shipped a defective ez-down, their online store will not answer e-mails and their customer service is unresponsive and ineffective if you can get through to a real person.

As you can guess from the above, mine was shipped defective, installed easily but the tailgate wouldn't go down at all. Looks like the cylinder is bad. I e-mailed three times and called twice. I actually got a cs rep the second time that assured me they had them in stock and would be shipping a replacement out the following morning. That was last week. (the first one took 2 days)
Looks like I'll be contacting my credit card company.
