Is there any way of putting in the MAF sensor in upside down causing the check engin to come on??? What is the proper way of installing the MAF

In reading install instructions for some intakes it says to pay very close attention to how the MAF sensor is reinstalled, and to reinstall it the exact way it came out. They say you can put the MAF sensor in backwards, and that it will cause the check engine light to come on. I don't have an intake yet so I can't tell you what the right way is.
