I am trying to get 7 inches of lift out of my leaf springs on my 2013 frontier. Instead of adding blocks I would rather make my own custom spring pack. I have seen where other guys were putting xterra leafs into their frontier pack. From searching I found out our leaf springs are 2 3/8 inches wide. Would I be able to combine leafs that are 2 1/2 inches wide without any harm? What are the pros and cons of combining leafs from other vehicles for a lift? Any tips or feedback would be great.
In order to get that much lift you'll need springs with more arch in them. You're not going to get that out of combining other leaves from different packs and still have a driveable truck. Custom built packs run 700-750. I got almost 6" out of my custom Deaver packs. You'll also have to factor in a bit of lift from shackles as your stock shackles won't move far enough for a leaf pack of that size. I have PRG shackles running in the middle setting for about 1" of additional lift over my spring packs so the rear of my ruck is sitting right at 7".
There have been people that have made hybrid spring packs using different set ups, including X leaves but you'll still be limited on the amount of lift you can get.
I am running a frontier/xterra hybrid pack which gave me about 5" of lift, but I still have my overload leaf which many take out when they do this mod. I bet if you were to do the fronty/X hybrid pack and do an AAL along with it, your'd get another 1" or so out of it but it would probably be really stiff. I have a 2" shackle with mine to get me in the 7" range.
I have a two inch shackle on my truck already so this may be a good route for me. Which leafs did you put in from the xterra pack? Also did you end up having to get a longer driveshaft?
I have a custom steel DS on mine and it is less than 1/2" longer than the stock one. There seems to be plenty of room for length change in the stock slip yoke. The biggest issue I had with the stock DS was the diameter. Once I went past 4" in the rear the DS actually had clearance issues with the DS loop/cross member.
So do you think I would be able to run the stock driveshaft with 7 inches of rear lift? I can modify whatever it will rub, i'm just worried about length.
I put all of them in. You take the Xterra pack, cut the bolt attachments off the biggest leaf and then just add them too the stock pack. I have a steel tubed driveshaft on my truck, bu I don't know if they made it any longer than stock.
Im doing this. Was thinking of adding 5 leaves on top of the one main stock overleaf w eyelets. My front SL will be 3" so would my rake in the rear be to great in adding 5 leaves since im leaf over axle? I have 2" lift shackles on their way.
I was lookin to do the same w my 1st gen fronty w my old xterra packs. I have 4 xterra packs worth of leaves. If the width is not the same there will be an issue. Mud, sand and debris will get caught in between which will lead to failure and if not stacked properly could cause unwanted movement in the pack ; and when flexed or loaded the weight might not be proportionately distributed across the width of the pack. Might be minimal difference but from an offroading standpoint i myself am thinkin twice now about doing this.
I am getting close to 6" with a custom Deaver spring pack.My truck weighs a lot more than stock.Expensive but happy with the progresive rate.$950 shipped.
Yea i have 4 Xterra leaf packs and a tom of xtra leaves. Two of them are alcans. Im thinkin to build my own, have all the leaf layer measurements and ready to go. Didnt wana go deaver bushings my rig is still my DD. Some of my buds w Xterras running them tho.
