My truck feels like sand paper!

Hey All,

We had our cabinets/tub refinished on Saturday with that spray on liner (white).

They had a ventilator that sucked the fumes out of the house. While they were spraying, I was outside and noticed the air to be pretty dusty. It was a windy day, so everything was blowing into my parked truck, which is black. When I noticed this, I moved the cars down the street.

Anyway, Sunday morning the dust was bothering me so I took it to a touch-free carwash and the damn car still feels like sandpaper. If I take a wet wipe and scrup in a certain area, it does feel smooth again, however I can still see specs...

Is this a job for clay? I'm thinking about taking it to a detail shop since it's due for a good cleaning and waxing. Do mos detail shops do clay also?

Thanks all!!!

sounds like a clay wouldnt hurt, but you may need to do some sort of chemical removal first, then a clay, polish, wax. most detail shops that i know of don't clay, they do a really good wax only, you my be able to get a paint shop to clay, polish, and wax. or even a wetsand, polish and wax.

Clay should be fine. I had white specks of paint on my old red Hardbody and clay took them all off.

If its a lot of stuff all over your paint, clean it with some type of liquid first. Get as much off as possible. Reason being, if you use the clay bar for all of it, the stuff is going to get into the clay and will possible start scratching the truck.

Don't mess with it. You could make it worse. Have it professionally buffed /detailed and make the contractor pay for it. Put a claim in with them ASAP. They should be insured.

Definately Clay the vehicle, however get Overspray Clay and use a water based lubricant and it'll come off. Most detailers who are worth anything use clay. You can have it done by a detailer, but depending on how bad it is , overspray removal is $300- $600 + the cost of a wax and buff. So get some 3M overspray clay, some soapy water . Then spray a section at a time, pat the clay out to palm size, then rub the clay back and forth in straight back and forth motions over the lubricated area. Front of the hood to back to the windshield is best, keep spraying, and claying and it'll come off. Fold the clay over into itself when it fills up with debris and continue spraying lubricant and claying. Depending on the severity of the over spray, It would take me about an hour or so to clay the truck.

Good Luck !

yes, all the time. I love it.

I use it almost daily. My truck is really slick to the touch. My grandad Pappy swears by the stuff. he even puts it on his eyeglasses to keep water from spotting on them. Why do you ask?
