lime away/ CLR bad for paint?

ok, before everyone trys to shove bamboo up my finger nails, i searched this earlier and didnt find the answers i needed. i checked out both lime away and clr and they both say do not use on glossy or painted surfaces. so is it safe for my hard to keep shiny black paint or not. What ratio did you use to water, and which lime away did you use, the spray bottle kind or the crystalized kind? Is it necessary to wax my paint after this? thanks for your help, it looks lke my apt complex waters the grass with salt water, water spots suck

Don't use lime away. I've never used it on paint, and I don't want to try. If you have water spots use a 50-50 mix of vinegar and water. And yes, you will have to wash and wax afterwards.

Their is hard water spot remover made by a few companies that I use in my detail business, that works well. Yes you should wax the truck after using the hard water spot remover.

I've heard of folks using clr on paint, but because clr is caustic, even highly diluted amounts will soften and damage the clear coat. I wouldn't advise it !

I would advise parking your truck elsewhere as well as buying a car cover and approaching the apt management and asking if their willing to relocate your parking space to keep your truck from getting water spots, since it's their fault I'd make them responsible !

I use the Mequiars hard water spot remover all the time and buy it by the case !

3M light compound will take off spots as well , but it takes longer this way

3M™ Scratch Remover

Safely and effectively removes grade 1200 or finer sand scratches, other fine scratches, medium oxidation, coarse swirl marks or water spots, and leaves a fine finish. Excellent for hand compounding applications.
  • For machine or hand use
  • Clear coat safe
  • Easy to use

I felt a great disturbance in the detailing business, as if millions of paint jobs suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I wouldn't use anything not specifically called out for automotive paint finishes unless you're a chemist and know what you are doing. That said, try using a clay bar to get the "deposits" off your paint, works wonders.

IF that's what they are, I agree. Hard to tell exactly what they are from the description, imo.

When I used to detail cars (for almost 6 years) this is the method I would use, it works and works well, but definitely wax after washing to get back the shine
