Use the Quik-clay system by Meguiars I think. Its really easy, and the results are great. You just spray on the quick detail spray and rub the clay over it. Then wipe it dry w/ a shop towel or terry cloth. I spent just over an hour maybe, but the results were great. A few weeks later, and it is still smoother than if I had waxed it. The water beads right off and it feels like glass. You've got nothing to lose except $10 and a little time. As for surface scrathces, use GS-27. I know, its one of those as seen on tv things, but it really works. I use if everytime I get back from offroading. It will blend any paint color if you do it correctly.

I tried Mother's clay bar once and didn't like it, been using Clay Magic ever since. Once it wears out I will try Meguirers clay. Wash you truck with a good quality car wash soap, unless you want to strip the wax off using Dawn and then dry it off. If you rub your hand across the surface and feel grit then use the detailers clay and follow up with a polish or glaze and then wax. Check out Mequirers online forum, there is great information there. |

Using a clay bar removes the surface impurities. You will have a really smooth paint surface after you finish. It doesn't remove any scratches. You have to do that in a separate step.
I used a clay bar on my old '93 Ranger before I sold it. 13 years of stuff was gone in an instant! The paint was as smooth as when I bought it. It was remarkable. Your paint will be bare afterwards, so you'll have to wax to finish. |

By the way, I bought some Turtle bug and tar remover and wow -- it works great. It's thick, so it sits on the bug and floats it off without a lot scrubbing.
