Use the Quik-clay system by Meguiars I think. Its really easy, and the results are great. You just spray on the quick detail spray and rub the clay over it. Then wipe it dry w/ a shop towel or terry cloth. I spent just over an hour maybe, but the results were great. A few weeks later, and it is still smoother than if I had waxed it. The water beads right off and it feels like glass. You've got nothing to lose except $10 and a little time. As for surface scrathces, use GS-27. I know, its one of those as seen on tv things, but it really works. I use if everytime I get back from offroading. It will blend any paint color if you do it correctly.

The Clay bar works best for that.

The purpose of using the clay bar is to remove and toxins or debris that have adhered to the paint surface. When you run the Clay bar with the detailing spay you can actually feel the clay bar pickup the impurities as you run the clay bar along your truck. It will not remove scratches (unless your using super man elbow grease maybe). I would recommend Meguiars scratch remover for that.

When I get pulled over I roll them all down right away, It makes them feel safer.
plus my hands are where they can see them.

Sounds crazy, but there is a 18yr old who got shot by a cop who thought he was pulling a gun on him, the cop was wrong and he was paralyzed. City paid him 4.5million.

I had to pay cash to the tint shop for them to do it,( no receipt.)
I wanted a very light film across my entire windshield but they wouldnt do it.
I had it done on my jetta and it really cut down on the temp inside the car.
Did you add more tint to the back windows as well?

No, detailers clay does not remove scratches. But I have used it on several cars to remove overspray and it works great. I can do my truck in about 45 minutes and I'm an old fart, 20'somethings should be able to clay a truck in 30 minutes as long as they are not trying to hold a beer can at the same time.

I tried Mother's clay bar once and didn't like it, been using Clay Magic ever since. Once it wears out I will try Meguirers clay.

Wash you truck with a good quality car wash soap, unless you want to strip the wax off using Dawn and then dry it off. If you rub your hand across the surface and feel grit then use the detailers clay and follow up with a polish or glaze and then wax.

Check out Mequirers online forum, there is great information there.

Using a clay bar removes the surface impurities. You will have a really smooth paint surface after you finish. It doesn't remove any scratches. You have to do that in a separate step.

I used a clay bar on my old '93 Ranger before I sold it. 13 years of stuff was gone in an instant! The paint was as smooth as when I bought it. It was remarkable.

Your paint will be bare afterwards, so you'll have to wax to finish.

After washing and waxing with Meguiars carnuba, I stil get a very rough feel to my hood and front fenders.

What do you guys (gals) use to get the paint smooth? (which wont hurt the clear coat)
I'll write up on how I got my truck smooth...I had the same problem as you before...now I have a routine.

Donde Esta Mi Clay Bar

My wife and I drove to Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Wal-Mart, Target and Pep Boys today and all we could find is a darn $17 Mothers "kit" which has the clay bar, detaling spray and sponge. Don't need all that -- I have detaling spray and a cloth. Any other national retailers that sell just the clay? I guess I could buy just the clay from Griots Garage, but I think they want $20 or something.

By the way, I bought some Turtle bug and tar remover and wow -- it works great. It's thick, so it sits on the bug and floats it off without a lot scrubbing.
