Speaker Issues 05 Nismo

I wanted to upgrade my front two speakers today.

I researched how to take apart the door, took it all apart and got the speaker out.

The problem I had when shopping for new ones is the sales tech told me I had two ohm speakers and that all the 4 ohm speakers (which was all he carried) wouldn't work without rerouting around my amp and he said it'd cost about 150$ to have them do that and then I'd still have to install the speakers myself.

I personally haven't done much with car audio but don't see why I can't just buy new speakers and solder them in. I read numerous posts with people doing just that and never heard of anyone else with that problem? Does that mean they had 4ohm speakers to start with? I mean I have the standard setup on the 05 Frontier Nismo edition king cab. I had just the single disc but upgraded that previously from these same guys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the sales person doesn't know what they are talking about. You just need to get a good set of 6x9's 4ohm they will work just fine...

we all had 2ohm speakers, at least in the front. This has something to do with the way they wired the tweeters in the dash. But as wizard says 4 ohms work fine. I think some folks have disconnected the tweeters to get back to 4, but must have not.

Did you have the factory tweeters in the dash? If so, did you leave them hooked up? Just curious. I like the black wheels. That ssems to be a popular mod.

I left them hooked up. Didn't mess with really anything but soldering on the wires. What advantage would there be to unhooking the factory tweeters?

Just did the black wheels today too. Had a project day. Thanks.

im new to the forum here but audio is my specialty. in a very simple way of saying this, ohms is a matter of resistance... 4 ohm has more resistance than 2ohms. The way the factory wires them is to get a final ohm load of 2 for less resistance allowing a cheaper way of powering them (the stock headunit). when looking for doorspeakers without amps you need to match what you have in there with your aftermarket cd player (if you get one) if not your speakers are being wayyyyyy under powered and have alot more potential. you did nothing wrong but if you want them louder get an amp because they are being underpowered. if you were to unplug your tweeters the ohms would either go up to 4 or down to 1 depending on the ohms of your speaker. stock headunits arent 1ohm stable and will mostlikely overheat.
