New speakers (good ones) don't cost that much. I got my Pioneer's on Amazon for $155.00 out the door (front and rear!!) That's the D series Pioneers which are the best line they make after the PRS series which would have deffinately required an amp.

i think newegg has it for $250.00

as far as the whole ipod interaction thing, not my #1 concern. what i've noticed anyway is that ipod and iphones dont put out the volume that i want. if i turn it up too loud my system sounds broke and grainy, thats why i stick to cd's and dont bother with mp3's anymore.
I have this headunit installed along with 4 new Pioneer speakers and it sounds great! The tuner is a super tuner so you can't argue with that, and the ipod connection is my favorite feature by far! I ran the cable into my upper glove box and leave the ipod in there. The HU controls the ipod and there is plenty of volume and clarity. I can't speak for other mp3 players, but I know that my ipod whether connected to my bose headphones or my DH8000 rocks!

BTW - I paid $255 for mine on Amazon in April, so $200 is a great price

the stock speakers in the SE s#ck! You will definitely want to replace these. And you will see why as soon as you remove them. The speakers I used were: Pioneer Car TSA6992R 5-Way 6 x 9 Inch Speaker ($62), and Pioneer Car TSA1682R 4-Way 6-1/2 Inch Speaker ($42). So for an extra $104 you won't be dissapointed.

Also be sure to use the plug that comes with this unit. You can buy a Nissan to generic adapter and then hardwire that to this plug, so you don't have to cut any wires on your OEM harness. But your unit will not work if you don't use the plug that comes with it. I learned this the hard way.

PLEASE dont waist your money on that 4 way 5 way crap. buy either coax speakers or comps. that Xway crap is just a gimmick and can be put to shame by any decent 2way/coax.

The 800 or 8000 is definitely the unit I am going to get when I upgrade the stereo. I was initially turned away from it because Crutchfield has it listed as 14 Watts RMS, which I thought was very weak. When I went on Pioneer's site however, it states it has 22 Watts RMS, which is a much more attractive number. So do we actually need a mounting kit for this? Does it bolt right up to our factory brackets?

everything you need is included with the unit. The bezel is a little small IMO, but it works.

as for 4way 5 way. I paid $40 for a great pair of 6" speakers and $60 for a great pair of 6x9's. I did not really care that they were 4 way, what I liked was the price and the sound.

I just install this headunit. So far I like it.

Cons
-Does not display Radio Station name or song name(Unlike Kenwood brands)
-Does not take all Mp3 Players/data storage
-Not Compatible with all Bluetooth Phones
-No 1-5 Presents on headunit(only on remote)

Pro
-Looks Great almost OEM
-Clean Finish
-Sounds Great
-Bluetooth Sounds really good
-Easy to use

Recommed new speakers

Regarding the pre-sets, while they are set via the remote, they can be accessed with the multi-control on the HU by pushing up or down on it. If you have sat radio, it does display station # & name and artist for that.

While its not compatible with all blutooth units, I doubt any HU works with ALL of them.

One question - What is difference between Pioneer and Premier? They look like they have the same features, unless I missed something.

Mine came with the i-pod cable (Crutchfield). Not sure on the warranty, though.

It looks good, I been waiiting for someone to post some pics of it installed. I think that pretty much decided what radio I'm going to go with now that I've seen it installed.
