Pioneer

go with the Pioneer. i have it and i dont regret it at all. i was the same way looking at the jvc 7 inch screen but Jvc isnt the best company to go with for those types of things. there not the best quality. you will be more then happy with the pioneer. it works great

I installed this unit in July. Also, I just joined ClubFrontier, and this is my first post - so here goes:

Pros:
Looks great - DD size is the way to go. The simple face with the blue lighting looks sharp.
Sound is excellent - I added the pioneer XM receiver under the passenger seat. Sound is flawless.
Bluetooth sync is excellent - picks up my phone in seconds after getting in the truck, and the hands free is truly hands free for incoming calls.
Has I-pod hook-up - got mine at Crutchfield for $327 with the male/female adapter.

Cons:
Not many - The shiny black face gets dirty easily, and scratches.
The blue lights are hard to see with my prescription shades on.
The night dimmer is not low enough - she is bright!!

All things considered, its a great unit - I highly recommend. You will have to replace your speakers, so plan to do that - the OEM's are sad. I got some basic Alpine and Blaupunkt to last me till I amp up.

Here are some pics of my install...

So you sayin i will have to get rid of the stock speakers because they are not good quality? Or they will not last long with the headunit...

My buddy has this in his truck. It's great. comes with everything. Dont need to buy any other bluetooth pieces. comes with a mic. can upload your phones contact list into it. you can type the phone numbers from the remote. it shuts off music when you get a call. it plays music for your friends if you put them on hold.

i think newegg has it for $250.00

as far as the whole ipod interaction thing, not my #1 concern. what i've noticed anyway is that ipod and iphones dont put out the volume that i want. if i turn it up too loud my system sounds broke and grainy, thats why i stick to cd's and dont bother with mp3's anymore.

you dont have to get rid if them right away. it jsut doesnt have the greatist sound with the stock speakers. if you replace the stock with aftermarket say either alpines or pioneers it sounds amazing.

That's correct, at least in my case where I had the standard (non-Fossgate) unit - Your original speakers will work, they just sound like crap. Budget for new ones (both pairs) as part of your install. If no amp is used, I would go for a speaker that's good from about 5-50 watts.

Meanwhile - I tried to upload a bigger picture than the postage stamps I sent earlier, but can't get the attachments to cooperate.

Will the speakers sound worse with the pioneer headunit than they do with the stock headunit?

Your stock speakers will sound better. Which is relevent to how good they actually are. With some aftermarker name brand speakers your HU will shine even more.

I installed my FH-P8000BT myself. It was real easy with the help of some posts here and the instructions that come with the unit from Crutchfield.

Others will sell this unit for much cheaper, but, no extras will come with it. You will need a wiring harness for your factory wiring and an antenna adaptor harness. Both are included from Crutchfield along with the Metra kit & master instruction manual. Although, I only used the faceplate boarder from the Metra kit, is all that was needed and is only cosmetic to take some of the gap away from the edges.

One good thing about Crutchfield is actually part of what you pay for is their customer service.

When I bought my unit standard shipping was free. Even a HU ina box is not that light and should cost a bit, but, for free standard shipping I was happy. the icing was when they shipped my unit to me (I'm in Honolulu, HI) they sent it UPS 2nd day AIR! FREE! I got my unit by the third day as planned (everything takes an extra day here) and was astatic about the arrival.

I really like the HU, sounds great even with the stock speakers and hideaway Blaupunkt Sub. Awaiting some speakers shortly when I can afford them. And with bluetooth it pairs with my iphone perfectly.

The unit comes with USB 2, but, all you need is an ipod USB docking cable (mine was from Griffin Technologies) and the built in controls on the HU will take care of the rest. Another thing about the USB input is that you can use flash drives with them. Even a portable hard rive would work.
