that's a slick looking install!

I wonder if that docking unit could be hacked for other purposes? I don't have anything in mind, but it would be cool to mount all kinds of things that way.

I think you might have to use the Garmin Topos. Which would mean that you have to buy them unless you are in to software torrents (Then everything is free ) .

It will, you just tap a different wire. The harness pictured is from a non-CD changer unit. This works with any stereo system, just requires 12V power source and grounds to the bracket.

will this only work with a nuvi750? sure would be nice to be able to adapt it to other GPS systems. like my streetpilot 550.

Right now I can only confirm that it works on the 750. I posted a pic in the other thread of the connection so you can see if maybe yours will connect to this docking unit.
