having problems with speakers

Here is my rear setup just in case you dont feel like reading my sig

JL Audio 300/4 amp
Polk Audio Momo 6.5 comps and Polk Audio Momo 6.5 coaxial.

Problem - Rear speakers will not turn up with out the yellow/orange light comming on the amp (which I believe is the protect light b/c of clipping) My front comp set is nice and loud and have 0 problems...The rears are so low that when sitting in backseat - you here 0 words/tunes comming from them. If you try to turn up the rears (whether from HU or Amp) they start to clip and cause the amp to throw the yellow/orange light. Is the crossover just crappy? I know Im not putting much power to them because I hardely have the things turned up.

Solutions - I have rewired the driver directly to the amp and then have the tweeters still hooked to the crossover but its still doing the same thing. Im ready to take these out and buy the Polk Momo comps for the rear as well.

Any solutions or pointers?

I have the polk momo coaxials in the rear. No problems running through alpine amp to polk crossover (included with momo's) to speakers. Is there any way you reversed the woofer and tweeter wires coming out of the crossover that might have caused your highs to go to your woofer cone and your lows to go to your tweet?

I dont believe so but I will check that out tomorrow...

update: I hooked up my front component set up to the rears and the light did not come on so that tells me its either a wiring problem or speaker/crossover problem...Will be taking apart tomorrow to find out.

I would suspect and eliminate the new wireing first. Run a few feet of temporary wire directly from the amp to the crossovers ( one side at a time to start.) If no improvement, then it's pretty much isolated to the Coax sets and they should be returned/ replaced.

p.s. Just to rule out an amp overload problem, it would be nice to get another set of speakers ( any/factory will do) and hook them up in the rear after the test below before buying new coaxials.

My guess is that you have metal contact. This happened to me when I first installed rear speakers. My 6" speakers were a little deeper then the ones I removed and while they did not appear to contact when installed, they would once they started bumping. Just pull the two rear speakers out of the door leaving them connected and test the stereo. If they work fine like that then your probelm is metal contact. What I did to solve it was wrap some electrical tape around the lip of the opening in the door and the problem was solved.
