AVIC-F700BT Install Guide (( LOTS OF PICTURES))

Aloha all,

Today I got my AVIC-F700BT Installed. I upgraded from the D3. I am still waiting for my iPod cable, but I will install that later when it comes

For now here is my version of a install guide!!

Direct Link: TOYNISSAN.COM GALLERY : photos : AVIC-F700BT Install- powered by SmugMug

First you will need a panel tool to take the top off like so, I did my left side first and then the right

Now take the top screw out:

Now Pull it off like so:

Now unplug the wires like so:

Here is a pic with the front dash apart with the D3 Installed

Here is a pic with no radio

The old D3 Harness fits the new F Series, so i didnt have to open the new one

Take this part off so you can run / install the mic

New F700BT Installed

This is where i decided to install my Mic

Mic installed with wiring done

This is what it looks like from Driver View

Nice bright display

Old D3 After cleaned up!

My Review of this radio is good. It doesn't have some of the features of the D3, however I run a computer business here in Kauai and spend allot of time in the car driving to my customers locations.

Having the bluetooth built in now is just amazing, i should have used that with the D3. The mic location anyone in the car and talk and it all sounds just fine

The best thing about GPS, it shows it down to the Foot, eg tells you how close you are to the foot!

Now the big question, is it worth 700 - 900 bucks?

Here are my Pros and Cons:

Pros:

1. Built in Bluetooth
2. Sounds Amazing
3. Nice Bright Display
4. TTS (Text To Speech)
5. Voice Commands
6. Custom colors, so you can have a exact match to the color of your dash
7. Built in Google411 (works with voice commands) +++

Cons:

1. 1min Boot up time
2. GPS Voice is a Guy, when you switch to a girl she sounds like crap (very computerized)
3. Screen brightness, there isnt as many settings as the D3
4. I though these F series tell you the street names, eg turn left on to Kini Place, however it says make a right here etc....

So pretty much can you switch out the D3 for the F series even with the xm turner and Ipod cable?

1 minute boot time??? That seems crazy. Is that every time you turn the truck/radio on? Is it really a full 60 seconds or is it "about a minute". Maybe I'm being a little impatient but a full minute seems like a long time to wait for your radio to come on.

so it looks like the main difference between this and the d3 is an sd card, built in bluetooth, and built in nav? i like the built in nav but a 1min boot time would drive me nuts! any other cool features? or things it doesnt have that the d3 had you liked

yeah thats how the new kenwood systems are with built in navigation, it seems super annoying but a guy at work has one says you get used to it, or get remote start and youll never know =P

Ya the boot time is kinda gay, however within the min of boot up the Radio does start playing, you just cant do anything till its all done booting.

The best feature is the built in navi, however a handheld would do the same darn thing :P

Very nice. Are you planning on keeping it secure in any way? It is really easy to pull that screw out above the stereo. I had my Kenwood DVD stolen. The simply pulled the whole dash off, cut the cables, and slid the unit out. Probably took them about 20 seconds.
