6x9s in 06 Frontier KC - speakers too deep?

Hey guys, I went on crutchfield and they are telling me that i only have a few choices for 6x9s. They all seem to suck besides the alpine type r. I was wondering if I will run into fitment issues if i go with the polk audio or infinity 6x9s? Speakers too deep to fit? I'm guessing theres a few that fit besides the search results...

Here are the one that I am thinking about getting....

Polk Audio DXi690
Alpine SPS-619
Polk Audio db691

Would these work in the front doors?

I don't have an answer for you, but one thing I've learned is that Crutchfield isn't 100% correct. They suggested an antenna adapter that I didn't need and the harness for the deck they suggested wasn't the right one. I bought everything they suggested off Amazon and saved almost $200 so it didn't bother me. The harness was swapped out for the correct one by the shop that installed my deck at no charge so another plus there.

Hopefully somebody with the knowledge will chime in, but if not, I'd say check with a local shop and have them look it up in their database for you. I wasn't planning on changing my speakers, but ended up replacing them with some JLs when they installed my deck.

skip the 6x9's and install a nice set of 6.5's. i thought there was a list of what fits in here or at least what the real world mounting depth was but i could be wrong. i know some guys have installed spacer rings for added depth. just search through the audio forum and you will find them.

I have a first gen but I would remove the stock speakers and measure the mounting depth. My windows won't go down all the way now. They stay up about 3 inches. The speakers sound a lot better though.

I want to avoid going with 6.5 in the front because I want some bass without having to get sub/amp.

Handb94 - I might take your word and take out the stock speakers and measure the exact depth of them. I definitely want my windows to go down all the way.

I recently installed the Polk DB691 (front) and DB651 (rear) in my Frontier.

Yes, Crutchfield says they wont fit, B.S!

The only thing you will need to do it trim the backside of the factory plastic adapters where the magnet is larger in diameter and trim off the bottom lip where the speaker sits. You will trim off a small half moon size for the magnet and remove the lip near screw holes. Once you do this it will bolt right in without spacers or 3rd party adapters. It took me 10 minutes to do both doors and that included removing door panels.

TIP:
You have enough room in the speaker harness (at speaker) to cut and terminate new leads to fit onto new speakers.

blue, white stripe = positive

solid blue = negative
white, blue stripe = positive

Thanks Frontline! How's the bass on the 6x9s compared to the stock speakers?

I've already replaced the HU and it sounds a lot better. I have an extra set of 6.5" waiting to get installed as well.

Its much louder overall (using an AVH-X3500BHS). They can make my door mirrors vibrate. The downside is now I'm chasing rattles...

okay. That's good to know.

Anyone have experience with Infinity or Pioneer? I had Pioneers in the past and they had great highs/mid but little to no bass.

You were correct in your first post. Alpine type r 6x9's are the best. I found that you do need an amp with them though. I had a decent head unit back in the day and I needed one. You won't need a subwoofer though that's for sure.
