Magnetic Oil filter attachment

I found these today In Northern Tools catalog. Looks like a good item. Says it lasts up to 50,000 miles.

I'm just not seeing ANY metal on my magnetic drain plug on my 07 after 6K on the same oil. Not sure I'd bother with something like this again.

I would just buy a magnetic drain plug. I would think this thing would only add another possible spot for an oil leak.

No. I bought a magnetic drain plug ( $10 off Ebay.). I reasoned the drainplug is at the base of the system when metals should settle so it should be effective. It does have a STRONG magnet but I'm not seeing any noetable metal / grey sludge stuck to it at a 6K oil change ( 21k on the truck). I just don't think there is any metal to pick up ( after the first change or two.)
