Belt tensioner replacement

Parts needed

Start by removing the engine cover, 2 10mm bolts then pull straight up.

Then remove the center portion of the intake. 2 hose clamps and 2 10mm bolts.

Here is the tensioner.
Next remove the belt using a 3/8 ratchet to take the tension off of the tensioner.

Next remove the 14mm bolt holding the tensioner to the engine. Your only option is a wrench as you can't get a ratchet in there with the fan. This is what it looks like once you get it out.

Installation is the exactly the opposite. I didn't look for torque specs I just went for pretty tight.
I got the tensioner for $36 and the belt for $20 from Ken Pollock Nissan in Wilkes-Barre, PA

Good write-up. I just did this last month to both of my trucks. An easy fix. It was embarrasing to drive around with that squealling.

White 05 LE crew cab 4x4. Mods so far- Rollbak bed cover, custom Yakima bike rack, Pathfinder center console, Pathfinder window trim, steering wheel audio controls added, vent visors and window tint.

Is this common? My 06 SE KC just started to make noise after I did the Body lift. I assumed it was due to the power steering fluid that got on it. Maybe I will change it out and the belt while I'm at it.

If your going to do it, do it right the first time!!

It only made noise when it was below freezing out and the truck was cold so I knew it would only get worse from there. I also figured just over 30k on the clock I might as well change the belt before it makes me change it, even though it looked fine and is going along for the ride on any long and/or wheeling trips because even if I don't need it someone else might since we usually wheel with a bunch of Xs.
I didn't get pics but I can probably do a write up of the fuel tank replacement that I had to do about a month ago. It would help with the fuel level sending unit replacement. Has anyone done a write up?

How do you know its the tensioner?

How did you guys know the tensioner needed to be replaced? Did you replace the belt and see if the chirp stopped or is there something that you saw?

Thanks. I am getting a chirping right now but i already had the tensioner replaced about 20K miles ago. The dealer said it will be $250 to replace the tensioner and belt since its out of warranty.
