Engine internals

Since my V8 swap isn't happening anymore (it was put into my dad's Nova, subsequently destroying his 700R4), I wanted to find out what people have done to their KA24's.

Has anyone had the balls to do the crower cam upgrade? Or do any sort of engine work to the ka24 (note: I'm not talking about headers, intake, exhaust, etc.)?

I'm very tempted since its only $300 for the cam. I could probably get a new head, intake manifold, cam, valvetrain, have them all worked over and installed for $1500 or so. I think all I would need is an e-manage and some injectors.

Please don't advise a turbo kit. I don't want to deal with boosting a naturally aspirated engine again.

ON THIS NOTE I CAN TELL YOU FROM BUILDING MY OWN 700R4 FOR MY SUBURBAN THAT HAVE TO HANDLE 400HP ON MOTOR, AND ANOTHER 300 FROM FOGGER KIT THAT THE #1 THING THAT I REPLACE IN THE 700R4 IS THE 3-4 CLUTCH PACK IN THE FRONT OF THE TRANS. UP GRADE TO A COMMERCIAL PACK THAT HAS 7 CLUTCHES INSTEAD OF 5 FOR $60 OR BETTER YET UPGRADE THE WHOLE TRANS WITH CORVETTE SERVO, RED RACING CLUTCHES, KOLLEN STEELS, 10 VANE PUMP. DIFFERENT TV VALVE THE ALLOWS ALMOST FULL THROTTLE IN OVERDRIVE BEFORE IT KICKS DOWN TO 3RD(ALLOWS HIGHER TOP SPEEDS) A HIPO REBUILD KIT IS ABOUT $175 FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR CONSUMABLES, ORING, GASKETS, CLUTCHES AND STEELS. MATTER A FACT YOU CAN BUY THE BOOK TO REBUILD, A TRANS HOLDER THAT BOLTS TO A BENCH TO HOLD AND ROTATE TRANS, AND ALL THE TOOLS, AND UPGRADE HARD PARTS FOR LESS THAN A SHOP WILL CHARGE YOU TO DO A BENCH HALF AZZED REBUILD ON IT.

HMM BUT NOW YOU DONT HAVE AS LOW OF A FIRST GEAT RATIO AND NO OVER DRIVE, YOU COULD ALWAYS GO TO THE 4L80 WHICH IS BASICALLY A TH400 WITH OVER DRIVE, IF YOU GO TO A 4L80E YOU CAN INTALL PADDLE SHIFTER LEVERS BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAVE EVEN MORE FUN. BUT IF YOU WANT TO UPGRADE THE TH400 I HAVE A LOWER GEARED PLANATARY GEAR SET FOR IT WHICH WILL GIVE A LOWER GEAR IN FIRST AND SECOND

Not too worried about the gear ratio. It isn't raced and my dad has too much money so the hit in the MPG wallet isn't really that big of a deal. I just got the T400 for $75 from a guy hurting for money. It handled 600whp with the BB + bottle so I don't see it breaking anytime soon.

There is also a KA24DE stroker kit for a little over 2g's, haven't bought it cause i'm strapped for cash. It increases the displacement from 2.4 to around 2.7 and you should be good for around 200hp afterwards.

I have a truck. It gets me from A to B. Why I spend so much money changing it, I will never know. Is there a cure for this disease? I have no idea what I would be using all my money for if there was a cure.

though a stroker KA would be sweet you could get a sr20det for about 3 grand plus the 5 speed tranny and the ecu all for probably around the same price as the engine work for the KA plus tuning and dyno time, plus about a thousand more you could easily have 350+ hp, but thats just my .02.

There was a guy on another forum I visit that was going to swap a SR20 into his Frontier, but never finished it. I got some pics from it though.

Pictures all belong to Novak on AR. I think the truck and SR20 is still for sale. Truck has the KA back in it though

I'm not sure I want a SR swap because of the powerband being so high though. Has anyone finished the swap successfully?
