main difference was before 08, XE meant 4 banger. that and the grey plastic front bumper, steel wheels, and lack of options. you could get upgrades like power windows and locks tho. SE got you a v6 on top of many other creature comforts.

since 08, XE is basically a base model stripper. if i recall, only option is a/c or no a/c. SE has 4cyl trim and v6 trim levels. v6 will get you more standard stuff like alloy wheels etc. 4cyl is still an entry level truck with steel wheels, but you can add power and minor doo dads and you get chrome bumpers that you didnt get in 07

'08 SE 4 cyl is basically the same as an '07 XE with appearance package (chrome front bumper and 16" steel wheels). You can also option out an SE better than you can an XE in '08.

My XE came pretty loaded. AC power widows locks and power heated mirrors. Keyless entry chrome bumpers 3 windows tinted and rear slider. The only thing I wanted but could not get was alloy wheels which really cost me in the long run.

Hey no picking on Johnny. He can't help himself HAHA!

Same with mine, has almost every option except an automatic transmission. Even came with alloys and painted bumpers/trim.
