28+ Mpg

Well, I know my 4-cyl has its disadvantages, but MPG isn't one of them this week. I average about 25 MPG normally (back and forth to work and around town). This week I took a trip to the beach. 140 miles to the beach (all flat land), 160 miles driving around the beach, and I got 27.6 MPG based on the odo and the gallons to fill-up. Multiply that by 1.03 to make up for what I believe is the difference between the observed odometer reading (I believe it's reading low) and the actual reading and I'm above 28MPG. Multiply it by 1.05, which should be the difference between the stock 225/70-15 and the 235/75-15 tires I have now, and it's flirting with the 29MPG mark.

Now, the speed limit down to the beach was 55 MPH with several 45 and 35 MPG zones (several lights through the small towns) and the speed limit at the beach was 50 MPH, so I was probably at the optimal RPM (mileage-wise) for my truck. At any rate, I'm happy with it.

I have an 08, 4x2, 4 cyl, 5 speed and when I go trout fishing I am on gravel roads most of the time and doing between 40 and 50 mph and my best mileage has been 24.4 mpg. That gearing for the 5 speeds must have the ideal speed for best mileage (lowest rpm)set somewhere in that range of 40-50 mph. I have been trying to slow down to that around town to help improve my mileage here too but getting it into 5th gear for any length of time is harder to do in stop and go driving. If I recall correctly the 4 cylinder , 5 speed has a pretty high final gear ratio in 5th gear...can't recall the number though.

I have an '08 XE 4 cylinder.

It looks like the best mileage I've gotten unadjusted (including this tank) was 28.1 MPG but that was with the stock tire size. I used to have the "adjustment factor" column on my MPG page (LINK), maybe I'll put it back.

Anyway, like I said, most of the time I'm 24-25-26 MPG, but I was pleasantly surprised by this tank (Oh, as a rule I'm a big time Granny driver).

When I had my stock tires I would get 29mpg all highway at mostly 80, and 21 all city. Now with the 31's I dont check highway mileage but get about 19 all city with a heavy right foot. Love that second gear chirp

I got 24 and 23.5 on my last 2 tanks respectively and I drive pretty much all city on the stock wheels/tires.

I've been checking out the hypermiling sites but some of those guys are crazy. I will coast to red lights and down hills but I'm not going to sacrifice safety to save a few bucks on gas. Some people are putting 100 psi over the max sidewall pressure in their tires and dragging close behind tractor trailers--insane. Assuming you survive the fiery wreck, the cost of the crash will offset all those fuel savings.

After the free oil changes from the dealer stop, I'll put in synthetic as thats supposed to help.

I guess I can chime in, since I have been monitoring my MPG average/usage.

I drive a 2003 frontier xe 2WD as my daily commuter. Last week, I topped out at about 290.7 miles on one tank, filled it up (12 gal capacity I think?), and that averaged 24MPG. This is normal driving with an occasional heavy foot, but nothing radical. Air conditioning was also on, most of the time.

I rarely drive the RDX nowadays, since that averages about 17-18MPG, but it's day and night, specifically with handling and comfort.
