02 4cyl frontier motor knocking

My frontier 4cyl is knocking, it may knock at high rpms but I cant hear it. At idle knocking sound like (knock, knock, stop, knock, knock). It sounds like a water pump, and from previous cars ive had with bad water pumps I believe it is the problem. Theres no problem with a lose of power and otherwise the truck runs great. I do notice the coolant is alittle below min @ normal running temp. Please assist. Thank you

You might buy a cheapie automotive stethoscpoe like the kind Harbor Freight sells. With care so as not to get caught in rotating equipment, you can touch various engine components and clearly hear what's going on. When my water pumps have failed on past vehicles they've made a loud sqealing or roaring sound.

Also, if you normally burn 87 Octane try a tank of high octane gas. If the knocking stops, you know that the trouble isn't the water pump, alternator, a belt, power steering pump, etc..

try checking the 2 idler pullys, if a bering goes you might not see it unless you look close, but the noise sounds like its a diesel enginge or a bad water pump bearing. Red

Nissan dosent have a specified interval ,but how many miles do you have?
The KA24DE does have adjustable valves so that might be it or may not.

I would say 100k is a good time to check the clerance on them.
