Yet another Rear Bumper Build
So after some time pondering whether I wanted to buy a rear bumper from ShrockWorks or Hefty FabWorks, I decided I didn’t want to wait. So I decided that I would design and build it myself with help from my dad. After all, I have all the tools to design and engineer one… plus my dad is a certified weld and has all his own equipment. The plan is to have a good looking plate bumper that uses all factory mounting locations and also an integrated receiver hitch and safety chain mounts. I also plan on hiding the 7 pin trailer plug behind the license plate. The bumper will be fabricated from 3/16-in thick steel plate. While the mounting brackets will be fabricated from ¼-in steel plate and the D-rings are made from ½-in steel plate. All pieces will be CNC plasma cut; in addition, I will have the top, front and bottom pieces will also formed via CNC brake press.
So once I finished with the CAD model I decided to make a full scale foam board model and use it to mock it up on my truck. Once I finished all the finite detail it was off to fabrication!
