Here are some pics from our CF meet in Reno this weekend. I will have more pics to post later once Alan (FJ Cruiser) sends them to me. But for now I at least want to start the thread and post what I have.
Friday: Dog Valley
BCBrian got to town early enough on Friday to run a trail with me. There was a little fresh snow in the Dog Valley area, so we decided to head out there. I was actually a little bit disappointed by the amount of snow once we got there. There was just enough for a *little* excitement though. I attempted a slick hill climb, lost traction, and ended up putting my truck in a big rut on the side of the trail. When I tried to back out, I could only get the back tire up and out of the rut - the front tire was stuck. Every time I tried to back up, the truck just slid sideways. So I ended up sliding sideways most of the way back down the hill until the rut got shallow enough to back out.
Here are a few pictures from Friday. This was at the Crystal Mine:
Same spot maybe 5 minutes later. Notice how much snow is on my windshield compared to the last pic - it was snowing fairly heavily at the mine.
Another spot where we stopped to take a break.
Saturday: Prozac Canyon and Schoolbus Canyon
On Saturday, crewmaxxis and 05Fronty4x joined us, along with the FJ Cruiser, plus a stray Jeep we picked up along the way. There were several inches of fresh snow at the trailhead. Everyone seemed pretty excited to do a little snow wheeling, but I was worried about conditions in Prozac and Schoolbus - snow and ice were probably going to make the rocks slippery. Here are some pics that I took on the way to the first canyon.
It turned out that I had nothing to worry about. Mother Nature placed the snow PERFECTLY for this run. It is maybe 15 miles from the trailhead to the entrance of Prozac Canyon - and there was perhaps 13 miles of powdery snow. This is what I saw when I came over the crest and the entrance to Prozac came into view - the snow stopped JUST before the hills where Prozac and Schoolbus are located. We snow wheeled in and snow wheeled out, but conditions in the canyons were pretty dry (hooray!)
A few pics from Prozac Canyon (fifth pic is ALMOST a payback pic, Devin

)
Afterwards, we went over to Schoolbus. Here is crewmaxxis playing on the waterfall that the rest of us (except the Jeep) had to bypass:
After we re-grouped, BCBrian ended up at the front of the pack - and made a wrong turn into a trench that was almost too narrow and twisty for a pickup. The picture doesn't do this spot justice at all - it was TIGHT.
Another wrong turn down a small slide-o'-sand, and we all made it to the schoolbuses in one piece.
