*Pics* Northern NV CF Meet (Pyramid Lake to Fernley, Virginia City area) 12/21-22

Here are some pics from our CF meet this weekend.

Saturday's plan was to run Prozac Canyon to the Nightingale Mine. That didn't end up working out so well when we discovered that the trail had been completely washed out by some flash flooding that we had earlier this year. A year ago, the entrance to the canyon was a dirt road...and now it is a rock garden. That didn't stop Chris (Mr_Scott) from trying to find a way through.

Chris and I walked up the canyon a ways to see what things looked like further up. In the end, we decided that attempting it was not the smartest idea, so we turned around.

We decided to follow some trails south to Fernley.

We saw some wild horses and wild burros along the way (the four animals on the left are burros and the four on the right are horses).

Lunch stop.

We continued toward Fernley and decided to explore a canyon. This *looked* like a trail on my map, but it was so badly overgrown that I don't think it had been driven on in quite a while.

Finally out of the canyon and headed toward civilization.

Sunday's trail run went a bit better. We did some trails near Virginia City. There was a fair amount of snow and a LOT of mud. The first trail that we did was to the cool air shaft just outside of town.

Then we did the neat canyon that Chris and I found on a previous trip. The snow increased the pucker factor in some spots and the fun factor in others.

The next stop was American Flats.

Next we took Ophir Grade out of Virginia City. This is McClellan Peak as seen from Ophir Grade.

The junction of Ophir Grade and Jumbo Grade.

Jumbo Grade.

Near the bottom of Jumbo Grade, we all tried (and completed) a snowy hill climb. It took Brian (BCBrian) and I each a couple of tries. This is how far I made it on my first attempt. (It's steeper than it looks in the first pic; the second pic is a better representation.)

Brian waiting at the bottom.

Brian's second attempt and Eric's (Mr. Sixspeed-SV) first. I wish I had Brian's first attempt on video because he got hung up in pretty much the same spot that I did.

There were other cameras out, so stay tuned for more pics!

I wish I was able to take a picture of that air shaft. When I dropped a rock down there today, I timed it. Almost 4 seconds to hit the bottom.
