Hey Guys,
I basically have zero off-roading experience but I really want to take the Nismo I recently bought off road and see what it can do. As you could guess, I don't have friends that are into off-roading - I can find people to come along, but I don't want to hit the trails without another 4x4 in case I get stuck or something. Is there anyone in the philadelphia area that is interested in meeting up for an outing, and could show me the ropes or good places to go? From what I can tell the best place to go nearby is the pine barrens, but if anyone has a better idea in southeast PA or south jersey I'm down.
I'd avoid the pine barrens at this point. It's too easy to be caught in an area your not supposed to be and ticketed. And this site isn't really active as far as wheeling goes in the north east. People over on thenewx.org are always goin out.

Pine barrens in south jersey you won't get ticketed. I talked to a park ranger and they told me that you go out on your own risk. No one will come pull you out. So you need your own recovery gear or people with gear. I went out once this summer by myself and there are some trails you can go out on with nothing to worry about. I had my own hilift jack in case I got stuck and I got a bud with me for extra help. Lots of places in that area to offroad.

I'm in the same boat as you. Would love to go out but have never done so. I recently purchased an '09 SE CC 4x4. I am also from SE PA (Chester County) so I will check back and see if we can find something and meet up. Slainte!

Rausch Creek? Only about 2 hours away from my location. Looks like they offer beginners classes and whatnot as well. Wouldn't mind taking a trek up and checking it out. Any input from about RC?
rausch is great! theres a group of xterra guys goin in january. and the local xterra off road group, GPAX, will be having a major run there early next year.

There are a few members that talk about the Pine Barrens and Rauch Creek, keep posting and check out the northeast forum, there's a little action there from time to time.

it sounds like there is almost enough interest to make something happen. im in for going to the pine barrens, but unless you really like playing in the mud, most of it is just cruising fire roads and driving in the sand. i dont trust any of the mud holes down there either, some get nasty real quick. there are some pretty big trucks that will drive in and rut them out real bad in 2wd, just so other people get stuck. i also worry about the "eco-terrorists" sabotaging the mud holes with stuff to break your truck because they feel all off roaders are derelicts and just want to throw there trash around and drive over trees.
