Lifting a Desert Runner....

Ok,
I've been doing some looking around since I got my truck a few weeks ago. I love the stock height of the DR. I know that the DR is a 2wd truck, but it sits on the 4wd frame & suspension.

I'm thinking about doing a body lift. I don't want to mess with a suspension lift or change the ride quality by messing with the torsion bars.

What are my options as far as doing a body lift? I'm sure there is a 2" and a 3" lift. I mainly want to fit some bigger tires under her. What is the biggest tire I could run with a 2" or 3" body lift?

If I keep it stock height, what is the biggest tire I could put on her with the stock wheels? I'm just exploring options to see whats out there and what other people have done.

If anyone has pics of modded DR's that would be great also. Thanks in advance for any help.
Chris

Welcome... And congrats on your purchase... Let's see some pics...

Anyway... You can fit aprox 31.4" of tire with your stock ride... You can get to the 33" range with 3 or more inches of lift to the body... The problem is that the distance from front to back, is too short... The 2" BL would look great, but that alone won't get you to much for larger tire.. You will read that you can fit a 32" tire, but I can tell you from experience, with stock height, that a 31.6" tire required trimming back the mud flaps on the front... I have pics in my profile with mine... Its the S/C crew cab 4x4, so should be same height as yours... I have 2.5" lift with torsion bars and shackles, and 31" tires...

I can also tell you that with my wife, who is pregnant by the way, even said that she couldn't notice a differance in ride quality... I supose while off roading, you can slightly notice a differance.. But yea... The ride is great...

Doing a body lift is very time consuming, or exspensive if you pay somebody for it... If your looking for only a 2-3 inch gain, i'd go 1.5" with the torsion bars, and the lower level with universal shackles... then go with a 31-32" tire... stock tires are around 28.5 to 29" that will give you another 1.5" height in tire gain... total of 3" higher.... The torsion bars will go a good 3.5" inches or so in front end gain... dispite most people saying 2"... you don't wanna max them out, however the 1.5" crank won't alter the ride much...

Let us know what you decide on....
