When you buy a 360 you get a month free of gold membership (the membership that lets you do everything) and then when that month's up you have a free silver membership, which I'm pretty sure just allows you to use the market place but not play any games online (I could be wrong). Gold memberships usually cost $50 for 12 months unless you can find a deal like I know Circut City was doing $50 for 13 months and places like Sam's Club were doing $40 for 12 months.
