when i first got my truck (father gave it to me) he had Jiffy Lube change the oil and check everything out on it. I mean i said "hey, i want to do the oil change myself" but he insisted that the first one while I own it he does it his way. They did change the oil and didnt really screw anything up, but the skid plate had oil all over it that took weeks to completely drain from all the starts and stops etc. Then i had nissan do it, then i did the last oil change... thats been it for the last oh, 10k miles or so. but now that im at least 5" higher off the ground now, shouldn't be as much of a hassle to change the oil.

I have a truck. It gets me from A to B. Why I spend so much money changing it, I will never know. Is there a cure for this disease? I have no idea what I would be using all my money for if there was a cure.

to get back on to the topic at hand... what you need to do is contact the store manager and let him know what happened. as for what can be done, well nothing really, you cant really prove dirt got into the engine. now if a valve goes out in the next little while then and you could deduce that it was dirt that caused it then you could say yes it was the Wal-Mart oil change.
i live in St. George UT, and i don't run a k&n air filter cause of the all the dust. if you don't have a k&n filter then i am assuming you did a 30 point where they check your air filter, and replace if necessary, that is why the housing wasn't secured completely. if you are running a k&n in mesquite then you probably already got dirt in your engine and it will be hard to prove if it was the housing or the filter, Wal-Mart will say filter. So i hope you took pictures of the housing being undone, and of the oil drain plug being over tightened. Without them you cannot get the attention of the store manager. with them you my have legal recourse, or a free oil change or two.

Even going to a dealer doesn't guarantee anything. I worked at a Nissan dealer and the "junior techs" did the oil changes and every once in a while they left drain plugs out. Also, some didn't change oil filters because they considered them a challenge to remove. I got a guy fired because I caught him throwing away new oil filters rather than changing them. Moral of the story: DO YOUR OWN MAINTENANCE.
