ok I have a lot of catching up to do on this post...and there's too much to quote so I'm just gonna touch base on every thing...

In your first post when you say you found something you could live with, kinda sounds like you're not even that excited about it, almost like you're setteling. I don't know if that's really the case or not it just kinda sounded like it, but for your first tattoo just make sure you don't settle. Or for any tattoo at that matter. And it's good to have opinions from people but when it comes to tattoos other peoples opinions shouldn't even matter you should just be doing it for you. But I understand it's your first and you just wanna get input. It's cool that you can draw up your own ideas cuz you can really personalize what you want, so really play around with different ideas for a while and see what you end up loving.

As far as a spot for it...I know I just said other people's opinions shouldn't matter to you, but since you're looking for some input, I think you should put it on your calf or shoulder. I agree it's a good symmetrical design for inbetween your shoulders, but personally I don't like that spot for a tattoo on guys I feel like it's a little feminine. But that's just my opinion, put it where YOU want it.

And the people who are telling you tribal is stupid and it has no meaning and bla bla....if you really truely like it then get it. Not every tattoo needs to have a deep meaning and story behind it. Just make sure you really really like whatever it is. I don't like tribal either, but it's not my tattoo it's yours and that's what you like and makes you happy so do it up. Don't let other people try to change your mind if it's something you really dig. I'm sure there's a shitload of people who think my tattoos are stupid but that's fine because I didn't get it for them

Ok whew I'm done rambling now. Hope this helped you a little, and good luck keep us posted on what you decide or when you get it!

Oh yeah and that portrait tattoo of the wife makes me cringe, that's really sad that that picture was slaughtered so horribly. Poor dude...gotta research those artists

Research the artist and what his or her specialties are. If you are getting a portrait look at portaits the artist has done.

Put the tattoo anywhere you want. But if you are unsure and not to impressed with the design, keep searching till you find a design you like. Or take that design to an artist and see what they come up with. Might be able to make a design you like into one you will love.

Whatever you do.... don't get your girlfriends name tattooed on you....grin

Ask a few Women what they think and where it should be located. That can probably help you narrow down your choices.

how big is your calve? you say the design is 4" accross the widest part and 6-7" long right. Well if you got skinny a$$ pencil legs then it wont look good there but if you got calves that could hold the design in those dementions without rapping around the edges, then I say the design was made for a calve not a shoulder or center of back. The way you have that drawn it would follow the calve body line perfectly (larger on the top for the main muscle region and narrowing down on the bottom towards the ankle)

it would fit with a tiny bit of wrapping. maybe wrap around 1/3 of the way around...if that. it would pretty much fit perfectly
