These ants are driving me insane!!

We've been battling ants in our house for weeks now. I've tried ant traps (the kind where they take poison back to their home and it is supposed to Kill Em All), I've siliconed around the baseboards, and we've cleaned the house from top to bottom. It never fails... 30 minutes after I get rid of a bunch off of the floor, 15 more are their to replace the dead ones. I don't know where they are coming from!!

I've had a lot of luck with Combat Gel-type bait. They used to have a translucent gel that worked GREAT. They've switched (at least in this area) to a brown gel that I don't think works quite as well. But, I've put a teaspoon sized blob of the gel down in their path and let them have at it. With the translucent gel they'd be done in less than 24 hours. With the brown gel it took up to 2 days.

Other than that, I use the bug killer you get for the lawn spreader around the whole yard and make a second pass around the house perimeter.

Good Luck. I admire their work ethic, but I hate the little guys.

We've been having them here in Pa too. It's a bad year for them here. They are the black (carpenter?) ants, the big variety. Some up to 3/8" long (or 9.5mm for my European friends ). I have the little poison traps around.

Also, I've been spraying the perimeter of the house (especially thresholds like doors, the garage opening, etc) with a double strength mix of insect killer dispensed from my handy dandy pump sprayer.

It's helped keep them at bay mostly, but the little bastages just keep coming back. I don't know what the heck is so interesting in my house that they keep inviting themselves in.

They are a pain in the a$$ though that much is for sure.

If you don't already have one, get a pump sprayer and start on the outside of your house as your first line of defense.

This won't kill them but, once you find their point of entry, gob the hole/holes with Vaseline. They won't cross over it if it's in front of them, let alone try to burrow a hole through the stuff.

It'll slow them down a little, I guess.

They've been around millions of years before man and I think they'll be around after us too.

That is if man doesn't destroy the whole planet along with everything on it first.

Easy and cheap

Distilled White Vinegar.
Cost: $1/gallon

Simply pour/spray around points of entry and nest. Has always worked for me.
