I wouldn't think you could boot another computer from the SSD disk because it's soldered in.

As far as the flash memory goes, you probably wouldn't put your OS on it. In Linux you would use the internal SSD drive for the root partition and then whatever other flash memory you add (like a memory card) you could use for your /home partition..which you could share with another computer with a card reader.

I was saying maybe put Ubuntu or something on a SDHC and use that to boot my hopefully soon to come EeePC or any other computer? Am I really as dumb as I didn't think I was?

Interesting. I dont know whether it will be able to boot off of the SD slot or not. and I'm not sure what the kernal would think of having a completely different hardware set every other time it boots...

The only way to do that would be to use the Live CD kernel, which uses auto-detection for kernel modules and pretty much everything else hardware related. With Linux you can build in hardware support into the kernel or you can load "modules". The module loading process takes a few seconds longer, so most Linux enthusiasts (typically Gentoo users) build support in. The best example of this is Gentoo's Genkernel vs. a menuconfig'd kernel.

That being said..it is possible to run Ubuntu from a flash drive and save back to it like a portable drive. The question is whether the non-EEE computer would be able to boot from it. But for the sake of the question:

USB Ubuntu 7.04 persistent install | USB Pen Drive Linux

You can program the kernel in start-up disk to boot off of the card or the built in hard drive. I boot off of the factory hard drive and set-up sdhc 16gb patriot card as a hard drive.

hey, I could put all my tunes on it, run it aux through my head unit, and have an adapter for the car outlets... this could work... too bad im kinda leaning more towards getting my wheels/tires put on first.

I have a truck. It gets me from A to B. Why I spend so much money changing it, I will never know. Is there a cure for this disease? I have no idea what I would be using all my money for if there was a cure.
