PS2 died.

So, anyone every have a PS2 that would boot up to the browser fine, start loading games but stop before it ever hit the main menu...on every game? Just freezes up, no disk read error, nothing, just done.

so far, I've tried cleaning the lens and compressed air...probably gonna try taking it apart when I get a chance just because it's out of warranty (by less than a month) so I've got nothing to lose.

anyway, I was kinda pissed but I'm over it.

mine always did a DRE, i've had mine replaced by sony 2wice now(mine's always been under warranty). they usually replace the lens, i know they sell them ebay, try a search and replace it (think it's just a little cable with a plug mounted on the disc tray)

my ps2 runs like its brand new, it froze once or twice in 5 years i had it, im thinking of ebaying it and getting me a ps3.

better to keep it, i heard the ps3's backwards compatibility program has some issues...

hmmmm my buddy has one and never had problems with it but then again maybe its to early to tell, i mainly want it for the blue ray player and wireless internet and some of the cool racing and shooting games they offer for it, but i'll take your comment in consideration now.

trust me you won't regret it, as long as it works good, i'd keep it. also keep in mind if you have component (HD cables) they will work with both units. BR drives are cool, i'd only want a PS3 for GT5 and resistance fall of man, all the other games i want on that console are coming to the xbox360 as well (MGS4 included if you didn't know)

get a Xbox360, no problems so far neither with Xbox1

I'd still wait on PS3, way too over priced and still probably a little buggy... and the only decent games you can already get on 360 anyways.

Right now 360 is definitely where it's at.

didnt they extend the warranty due to a massive amount of problems with them?

PS3 still too rich for my blood. The new 40GB ($399) is not backward compatible. The 60GB (no longer in production, once they're gone, they're gone) and 80gb are backward compatible but the disclaimer says not all titles will work.

the good thing is they can update the firmware on them.

when they hit $299, I might jump. until then I'm not even seriously considering it.
