Congrats... just want to let you know though, i sold chevys for about 5 months and quit about a month ago. The hours get to you after a while... esp. when you dont have hardly any customers. My store only sold about 30-35 cars a month, and we had 13 salesman. So when your not with a customer you just stand there and wait. A lot of times your standing around all day with nothing to do and working 12 hours. There is no set pay either... so if you dont sell a car you dont cash a check (you get a min. wage check for the week, but then you have to pay that back when you do sale one). I love cars, and talking about them as well... but you will see real quick how you talk a lot more about price than cars. My bosses (the sales managers) are the ones who decide all the prices and everything... i have never seen such heartless people in my life lol.. but the bad thing is the customer gets mad at you not the sales manager. Honestly dude the economy is HORIBLE right now, and chevys are not selling very well to begin with so not many people are buying cars, and a lot of the people who come in and want to buy cant bc of credit problems. Thats why i quit. Im just being honest with you about it. Good luck, maybe you will like it. If you have any questions just ask me... ill be able to answer about anything.

the guy I've bought my last 3 vehicles from sells over 300 a year himself. every time I'm at the dealer, he's busy with a customer, others are standing around. My advice (having bought many cars but sold none) is to talk but dont be pushy and most of all, listen to what the customer is telling you before you make any suggestions. Then again, I think I've known more about every vehicle I've ever stopped to look at than the salesman who tried to sell me one yet they all tried to act like they knew everything about them (well, not all I guess but most).

That is true... I am in the south right now, the economy were im at is a lot worse than most of the country. The dealership i was at was a chevy store..didnt do very well at all. Im from pennsylvania and the economy up there is A LOT better than it is down here (everywere is bad right now, but its a lot worse down here). Hes from maryland so i imagine things are a lot better there than they are in SC. But im sure dealerships everywere are feeling the effects of the economy. I also know all dealers are crooks, but the one i was at was esp. bad. They did things that i didnt even realize were leagal, but they also got a pretty bad rep. Also remember ussualy the salesman isent the one whos trying to take you... its the sales managers. If you sale a car the salesman gets 30 percent of whatever they make, so if they make 3000 over what they own it for the salesman will get 900 dollars... rest goes to the dealership and managers. They are in charge of all the negotiating. |

Yea man those 9-9s suck. Days go by with no customers so you have nothing to do for 12 hours. Some people love it though all depends. Id give it a week or 2 before you make a decision. I have seen a few dealers that have split shifts... if you like selling cars find a dealer that has a split shift... this way you will work 8 hours. If you like it get your experience at chevy (most chevy dealers around here hire young guys with no experience) thats how i got hired. After you get a few months under your belt apply at toyota, honda, nissan, hyundai... you will probley make a lot more money there. After your in the business a little while you will meet people from other dealerships and such. Good luck man, you might like it. If not at least you tried it, and know its not for you.

yeah, 12 hours plain sucks lol, plus some peoples attitude is alot to be desired, i'll give it a few weeks to see what all its about and if i get tired of the 12 hour shifts and no selling i guess i'll slpit and get me an education. only thing is people is gonna tell me "i told you so" when i told them about being a car salesman, ohh well i'll give it some time and see what its all about plus i hear pay is good IF i can sell cars.
