If I didn't like video games I'd own a mac

hey guys. just got the recovery cd from HP today. put it in the laptop. let it run. then tried to start it back up again. the hard drive is shot. we are just going to warrenty it and go from there. il take a look and see how fast the HD runs. if its a turd, ill just purchase a diferrent one.

I wouldn't send them your computer or drive. You have a lot of PII on your old HD. I'd make them send you the new drive and just put it in yourself, it's very simple. Then you can wipe the old drive clean if they really want it back. Just because it's not working correctly doesn't mean that there isn't retrievable data on there. But that's me and I'm a stickler for security.

If you got that tool I linked on NewEgg you could try and restore your data from the old HD and then wipe it. Just an idea.

Thanks, will see what i can do. Im glad i spent the money and bought an acer. i can go on and on about those compaqs but id rather not. lol

X2 get a mac.. i've been on them since before they were cool (still chugging on a powerbook laptop) only problem I had was a HDD fail. I also am a Support Engineer, tech support, for an all mac organization of about 500 or so apples..

sorry I wasn't any help as obviously i know nothing about Vista..
