The element, I just dont see being a big enough improvement in mpg's to get rid of the truck.

Had an altima for about 2 weeks when my truck was in the shop. really wasnt impressed which is no different then when I test drove one before we bought my wife's accord. The engine sounded like it had marbles in it until it got warmed up and it was devoid of power (is it really as quick as our trucks? didnt feel like it).

the other question you have to ask is how much of a hit are you going to take selling the truck. not much of a sellers market for trucks these days but it's a good market if you're buying.

Well, I just looked at the Element, and test drove an Altima coupe.
The element was actually pretty impressive. It felt slightly cheap, but it is definitely 100% about practicality, which I like. It seemed comfortable, and it had a lot more room around you than in the Frontier, a lot better headroom, etc. It was a little short on the legroom though... although so is the Frontier.

The Altima Coupe was real nice too. It is literally the first vehicle I have ever driven where I didn't need the seat all of the way back. My hair actually grazed the roof a little, but I had the seat up high because I was used to the truck, when I lowered it down I had about an inch of headroom, so I figure that won't be an issue. The interior is nice, definitely more attractive than the element, but than again, we are comparing 2 totally different vehicles. I drove the CVT because that was the only 2.5L they had on the lot and it wasn't bad for a 4cyl, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Definitely NO WHERE near as fast as my truck, even with the tires, and all the added weight from skids, tools, etc. But then again, it gets much better gas mileage which is what I am after. It handles much better than the truck obviously, it is not sports car, but it is sporty... I must say, I hate fwd though, it understeers like crazy.

When I told the girlfriend I test drove one, she wasn't too happy that I was looking at a 2door because we will be getting engaged/married soon, and doesn't think it is practical to buy a 2door just a few years before we have kids.

Anyway.. that is my little review. Any input is still appreciated, now I've just got to go do some research...... Maybe I'll look into a Volvo S40 since the girlfriend wants a 4door.

I know it was a joke but getting a motorcycle to ride back and forth to work is not a bad idea. That way you could keep the truck.

My buddy just pick up a new Mazda pick-up for something like 15000 everything in. Granted its not the greatest of trucks out there but it is still a truck and apparently gets really good fuel mileage, something like 10L/100km.( sorry, I'm in Canada, don't know the mpg #s.) I'd say thats pretty good compared to my 07 CC Nismo which is getting 16L/100km.

But like somebody here said, for how much you would possibly lose on the exchanging of vehicles, you can probably drive the frontier for quite a while longer.

I averaged 28.3mpg while I had the altima (granted, it only had 3000 miles on it), normally I average 18-19 in my truck. then again, if gas gets too bad we'll just start taking the car everywhere (right now we take the truck) and I'll just use the truck for work.

I actually used to run a satellite location of my detail business out of Mesa going to Tempe, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills in 1995 from March through November 1995, all the while keeping the main locale going here in the SF Bay Area. So I know about the hell hole you speak of ! People who don't know, say " oh it's not to bad, it's a really dry heat" yeah well let me tell you about going to detail a minivan , and getting inside of it to clean the interior when it's 115 outside and a 130 inside...it's real bad !!! I orginally went there to expand the business, because I saw a newspaper article talking about the Phoenix area, calling it " The Valley of the Sun " , since we all know that the sun is what fries paint and does the most damage, I saw a lightbulb and a dollar sign go off in my head.......needless to say it was too hot for my crew, so I packed it in and continued the business up here. But the area does have alot of good mexican food, Pinkie's pool hall was a hangout for me in Tempe, played alot of pool in the AC........After jobs in Fountain Hills, I'd go to the "Fountain" and kick back when they'd turn it on ( For those of you who don't know, It is the worlds tallest man made fountain ) anyway I feel your pain !!!

What about a 4cyl Frontier? They get better gas mileage than the NISMO's.
