Viva, I am going to make you feel really good right now...

Ok kiddies, time to tuck in for a short story:

back when I had my focus (crapus), one of the help desk guys called my on the cell phone as I was on my way into work, I was working him through his problem, (also note that this was when nissan's HQ was here in southern cali) as I was cruising down the 405 at a rare, decent clip, suddenly I look up and it is binders everywhere... so I slam on mine... in front of me is a brand new nissan maxima, with manufacture plates, so this guy works at nissan and is driving a company car, well I would have hit him, but he moved out of the fast land and into the carpool lane so that I wouldn't hit him, as he did that, he forced himself and a ford explorer into the center median.

I kept driving like nothing happened... I contacted a friend of mine to discus the legality of what I did, his reply "you weren't involved in any vehicle colision, they were"

so no it's not illegal, he cannot sue you, and you did the right thing avoiding the fight

as long as you learned from your mistake, and you did make one, just try not to do it again. everyone makes mistakes, you got away clean this time, next time double check before you get over, and if you miss the entrance its ok take the next one and come back.

You're a new driver and are in learning mode. The other guy was understandably upset, but someone who'd persue you has mental defficiencies. You were wise to retreat, as a nut like that could do most anything in revenge.

The guy took it personal, and saw an oppertunity to try and make himself feel like a man by yelling at you or doing something even more stupid. It might not be the macho thing to do, but leaving probably avoided a situation that would have made things worse.

My suggestion, next time wait for him to get out of his car and go batshit nuts. I mean bozo the clown on speed nuts. He'll freak out and leave and you can laugh about it for a few weeks.

I wouldn't recommend this route... You never know these days who may have a gun in their vehicle! Going nuts puts the other person on the defensive, and if they feel threatened, already irrational thought becomes dangerous!

I think you did the right thing by defusing the situation by driving off. The guy who pursued you into the parking lot was actually guilty of Road Rage, which is any intentional aggressive behavior while operating a motor vehicle. What you did was negligence and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, but as has been previously stated, it did not result in an accident this time. Had a cop witnessed the whole situation, you probably would have been given a warning or worse case a ticket, but the other guy could have been arrested. I think you've learned a valuable lesson, so next time look twice, signal and merge safely, even if it means having to drive around the block to get to your destination!
Safe is always better than sorry!

He will get over it... But just so you know... Turning into a Parking lot on your right, from 2 lanes over to the left... kinda illegal... Infact, changing more than one lane at a time is illegal... But as long as you didn't get a ticket... Screw that guy, he will get over it.
