Hey, what do you mean, Even subarus have their day? Subarus kick arse. I've had 5. They will run circles around most cars on the road. They all ran to 220,000 miles or more before I sold them off to other people. The more I beat on them, the better they ran. Don't know what their like 'down unda' but they have been one of the safest and most reliable cars out there. Those older burus were so much fun and virtually indestructable. Great vid by the way.

The first car we bought when we got married was a Subaru wagon. Took it everywhere. I'd rather own a Subaru than a Toyo anyday. Just wish they made a little bigger Baja.

Our luck has been poor with our Subaru Forester. Long story I won't recount here, but failed head gaskets are a common fault on the 2.5L engines judging by Internet forums and ours has the problem too. Subaru has a TSB to add stop leak to all cooling systems of North American vehicles, which is a foolhardy solution and in our case did nothing to help.

That's a kick in the nuts. In rally, Suby has it hands down. A mud pit though?

The old Subies were good. I hate the new ones. Even the STi has room for improvement. (then again, that applies to all makes)

What makes it doubly aggravating is that with the Subaru's flat boxer engine, it's like doing two head gasket jobs! Sigh. I will say one thing nice about our Forester and that's that it's a very fun car to drive. Ours has the 5-Speed stick and with AWD, all the HP goes to asphalt with zero wheel slip and its handling on twisty roads is just wonderful.

I also have an issue with how they designed their suspension components. I can see the advantage of using composite materials but there is a higher chance of quality issues. Aluminum, although a bit more expensive, is another option.

Their AWD system is a pain to work on as well. Freaking clutches are almost impossible to rebuild. AWD system, gaskets, vacuum leaks...I guess they need better quality control. The head gasket is a given on any boxer engine though.

Sorry to disagree with you Panman06, but Subaru boxer engines are some of the best in the world. I've been a Subaru fan for over five years, and have frequented I-Club and NASIOC daily. Head gaskets aren't a widespread issue. Sure, Subaru could do a little more for build quality. But overall I'd say they are even more reliable than Toyota. Their symetric AWD system is amazing. You can actually crap out half the drive train and still finish a race! The EJ series of engine is world renowned for it's durability and potential. Some EJ25T engine have been into the 600hp range.
