theres already a thread on this exact issue, use the search, it wasnt to long ago it popped up.

basically it boiled down to buy a new truck or just do a SAS. converting to 4x4 IFS is basically out of the question and a waste of money.

Yep -- a good summation.

Houdini did do it... however he will also tell you to sell your truck and buy a 4x4 model. He said he was WAY to far into his truck with mods to turn back at that point, but unless you have some serious cash sunk into your truck in mods that cain't just be taken back off... sell it, and buy a 4x4

Would it be better (cheaper) just to add an E locker?

not true at all. SAS should cost you a maxx of 5k

it will change very every person weather its cheaper or not to buy a new truck.

my truck was with in like 6k on being paid off. i woudlnt mind dumping 5k into a SAS instead of buying a 15k 4wd.

or if you have a brand new 07 just picked it up. you dont have enough equity in your truck yet to be trading it on a 4wd.

no one can really says its cheaper to sell your 2wd for a 4wd. you have no idea what their financing looks like, their credit, their cash flow.

a locker doesnt help you that much. you can only safely use them in certain situations. which most people with frontiers dont put their frontier in those situations. theres a few little ones you can turn it on in, and theres even fewer that turn their fronty into a hard core rock crawler. you need to know when and how to use your locker before you go turning it on and blowing out your rear end. locker is cheaper. 4wd is better. 4wd will save you WAY faster and in many more ways and times than a locker ever will. but a locker greatly helps beyound that.

2WD to 4WD

speaking of conversion..

my uncle has this huge chevy express van with the 3500HD suspension. he hauls his family and a huge trailer of stuff (utility 4x4, snowmbiles, golf cart...) to the UP multiple times a year. (for those not familiar, the upper peninsula of michigan) he has some acerage up there for hunting. The land is accessible by a paved road, but the once you're on the property its dirt (mud) roads.

He had this van converted to e-4x4 with e-locking diffs by a company in indianapolis. this thing is now like a monster truck (van) with huge mudders and everything.
