Are we talking Windows?

Have you checked the Recycle Bin? When you delete a file, it will go to the recycle bin by default where it will still take up HDD space.

If you still have files in the recycle bin, you may be able to recover the files you want back from there. After that, you can Empty the Recycle Bin to free up the HDD space.

First off you're going to need to loose the porn. Go into your browser and delete your temporary Internet files. You can also delete the files in your "recent" directory which is within the windows directory. Uninstall some programs you no longer use. Did I mention the porn thing already?

I do this everyday as my profession. with laptops it is A GREAT IDEA to have an external HD for your data. Laptop drives crash ALL THE TIME. not to mension getting virus that you dont know exist untill its to late.

as far as space is concerned thats dependant on the media you have on the computer ie. music, movies etc. also games take a lot of space along with some aplications, you also may have duplicates of your media that can be deleted.
