Computer space help

I have a dell laptop about a year old, it's not top of the line. I keep getting a screen poping up saying i am low on C:drive space, it say's I onlyhave 4mb left, and i need atlease 200 aval.

i have deleted everything i could, ( even accidently deleted some dell stuff, that made me loss all my songs, and my favorites list )

is there any way to add more space, or anything else i can do? i dont see any thing else i can remove that i dont need.

try to defrag your hard drive. if that dont work try to download system mechanic 7 at download.com this will help you out.

After you deleted everything, how much space did you get back?

We need to know how much free space you actually have on your C drive. Assuming you have XP... double click on your "my computer" icon on your desktop. See the below screen print... tell us how much free space you see?

go to my computer >right Click C:/ Drive > Click Properties > Click Disk Cleanup > check all the boxes > and clean that SH*t up

Also can be found under start menu in the System tool folders. I use a program called Space Monger which is free. It visually shows you what programs/files use in coloured blocks. But just doing the disk clean-up will really help.
Also sounds like you need a external hard drive, they're cheap!

does anyone know why after deleting the Dell thing, that i lost all my sonds in windows media player and all my pics in my folders?

does anyone know if these can be retreaved our are they gone forever?

do we even wanna know what's on your computer eating up so much hard drive space?

i'm with phil on this one. and external hard drive to keep all your "films" would keep your main drive free to do the things it needs to do. disk cleanup, disk defrag, etc., just won't give you as much back as you prolly need. they basically just put things back in order on the drive so they run faster/use slightly less space.

Films, lol naw none of that on my comp, but it wasn't a very expensive laptop to begin with, bottom of the line dell for like $550 i think, it didn't come with much space. I have downloaded alot of song and music video's from lime wire to my windows midea player, and that is what i want back, and all the pics from my digital camera over the past 2 years or so.

the only thing i see i really have on there besides the stuff it came with is

lime wire, my digital camera program, my wireless keyboard prog. and the prg for my printer, the big thing taking up space is the microsoft suite that is taking like 600mb

all the stuff i names, i added as i purchased these products and really didn't want to get rid off.

I just want my comp back running right, and all my 2k or more songs it took forever to DL and Rip onto window media player.

how much does a good external hard drive cost?????

do a search on your hard drives for the diff type of files your looking for (i.e.) *.jpg <that command will find all file types with a JPG format...same with your music *.mpg
