It was a joke..just meant their not the fastest cars in the world. I wouldn't think a Focus would be the contender for such a thing, I would look at Mustangs and cars of that nature.

Yes, it certainly big brother like, but I think its a good idea. Kids always want to test limits and sometimes limits need to be enforced. I wasn't totally reckless as a teen, but I did test limits here and there and only with a mature look back, realize how stupid I was.

I also like the idea that if I loan my car out to anyone that they don't abuse it. I hope that I have good judgment on who I would lend it to, but you never know.

I think its good for fleet vehicles as well.

Big brother... sure. But what, in this case, do you need to be concerned about if you are not breaking traffic laws in the first place?

So many people want freedom and zero intervention, but have no judgment or responsibility. Tell me how you'd feel if some reckless driver killed your spouse or kid claiming the same argument?

they can try and make it as safe as possible, but in the end it will come down to the kid behind the wheel, when i was in HS I drove a 94 civic cx, a whopping 70 bhp, the car barely did 90 mph, but it doesnt mean i wasnt acting a fool driving like a moron.

You all talk about it being "Big Brother" but if you think about it you are in control of it so you are "Big Brother" my 3 year old daughter is wide open on everything so i would like it. 80 MPH is fast enough anywhere for a teenager, the only thing I would like is a way to transmit or download the info when they get home.

I think we all drove like that at one point.

As a parent, I have no problem with this technology. Well, other than the fact that it is only in a Focus.

When my daughter is old enough to drive, I will put her in a vehicle that Uprev supports and have them write a tune where she can only do 55 mph (tops), go up to 4400rpm, have WOT restriction in place, etc and leave the vehicle in that mode. I can't control everything she does but I can control some things

They will be offreing it on all of their vehicles, including Lincoln and Mercury. I would imagine the Focus will be the first because they are probably thinking that it is the car many parents would look at to buy their kids. Cheap, fairly reliable, yet not so ugly the kids won't want to drive it. I wonder if this will make it to Ford's other brands, like Volvo.

On the topic of kids driving...when on earth did they get so picky about what they drove??!! I was happy with 4 wheels and an engine. Now they have to have some shiny new car with all the goodies. I thnk it can all be boiled down to bad parenting that is causing this behavior.

Instead of that just get her a 90-92 VW Jetta diesel. That's slow enough. And to give her an appreciation for the car, make her brew her own bio-diesel!! And refuse to let her buy petro-d.

Exactly, it's no worse than putting a "net nanny" program on your computer so your kid can't surf porn. The article I read about this on CNN had some reactions from teenagers and one of them said "I don't like it, what if I have to go faster than 80 to avoid an accident?"!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know about any of you, but I don't think I've EVER had to speed up to avoid an accident, especially not to over 80MPH.

This next generation is going to be so nannied.....none of you had a car like that and you all turned out ok right? Soon our teenagers are going to be so monitored/controlled/limited they aren't going to experience **** while they are teenagers. The first thing I did when I got my truck was take it to (however fast a 1st gen CC can go). Did I crash? Nope. Hell, I've never been in a traffic accident. What if I had crashed and died? Problem solves itself...
Hell, my buddy got caught a couple years ago, um...getting friendly with his girlfriend in the back of his car in a park late one night.. Whats wrong with that!? who hasnt done that!?
but no, they saw the car via CCTV, and they dispatched a park ranger to stop em.

dont even get me started on the CCTV's and Redlight/speed cameras....remember all this stuff is here to save us from ourselves.

Took the words right out of my mouth. It amazes me how much stupid crap I see kids at my school doing behind the wheel. I'm glad I have enough sense to drive like an intelligent person.

I also think this thing with the Ford's is somewhat silly. Having all these nanny things in the car doesn't teach responsibility. If someone can't handle driving the speed limit, driving safely, and wearing their safety belt, they shouldn't be driving.
