Pretty lights dcbb........very tasteful......cant stand when people over do it but, we have competitions here and some people run enough lights to light up a small town.

Me I tend to under do it....generally just turn on the front porch light and flick it on and off a couple of times....lol

Put lights on my house this weekend, and am actually having a strange problem. Ran 'icicle' lights all around the perimeter of the roof, I think 6 strings total. When the last string is plugged in, none of them worked, so I unplugged a couple of strings at the beginning and plugged in the reamining 4, and they work. Turns out the 1st two strings are both defective.

So...I add two new sets at the beginning of the series and plug them in. They all light up for a minute, and all go dark again. The first two strings went bad again. When the first two are removed and the remaining are plugged in, they work fine. Am I missing something here? The first two strings seem to be burning out. Are the last 4 strings pulling too much current through the first two? Strangest thing I've ever encountered with Christmas lights.

check the in-line fuses in the plugs of the first two sets. chances are you're burning them out with 6 strings on one line. depending on how many lights on each line and length of run, the strings may only be rated for 3 or 4 per run.

Keep in mind that the fuses in a standard 100-light string are very low amps. A 100-light string uses 40 watts or .35 amps. I never connect more than 3 end to end. With 20/22-gauge wire I wouldn't want to run more than 200 watts, like 4 strings.

The fuses are slow-blow, so that is where they stay on for a bit then turn off.

That looks nice. Kind of dangerous too. I would hate to climb up on those upper levels. I don't own any lights so I don't worry about that ritual.

dcobb,

Nice looking home and the light display is outstanding. I am glad I didn't have to install the ones at the top.
