This is scary. It's my car and I'll drive it however the h3ll I want! Now I get to take it to the dealer and have them tell me, "you took a turn 2mph too fast so your warranty is void now" JEEEEZUS

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it's creepy for the car owner to know that his or her every move is being recorded. From the manufacturer's perspective however, the info that can be captured could be very valuable. Maybe the data they capture could help them figure out the driving habits that cause parts to fail so they can better engineer the parts to not fail in future. But I do agree that if they start using the data to dishonor warranty claims, I'd rather not have a black box in my truck.

"Today, every 2009 Nissan sold in the United States is fitted with an EDR, and along with nearly every automaker selling EDR-equipped vehicles, Nissan re-cords or will be able to record the 30 data points that the federal government will require of all EDR-equipped vehicles by 2012."

It is not until 2012 that an EDR needs to be hooked up.

For a few dollars, the stealership will disable the EDR in your vehicle.

I sure hope so.

I'll go to the dealer and be like " , I'd like to rod on my truck today. Can you disable the EDR?"
