Malwarebytes it good and works great on getting rid of the "antivirus 2009 Virus" Malwarebytes.org (malware)
Bit Defender Total Security (which I have) has a free online scan as do some other softwares. Bit Defender free online scanner--> Free Online Virus Scan - BitDefender Online Scanner (antivirus & firewall)

I also use and like Trend Micro too --> Download Security Software from Trend Micro - Trend Micro USA

CounterSpy is quite good too, gives you 15 days free trial. --> Antispyware Software - Download a Free Trial of Counterspy - The Best Antispyware Software (spyware)

I have all of these and a ton of others. I have used most all of them on the market and have only kept a few. (I have my computer triple booted so I rotate through the softwares and find what works or doesn't, and what user interfaces and utilities I like)

PC World Magazine's October issue did a review of 6 free anti-virus programs.

Avira AntiVir Personal came out on top
Alwil Avast Antivirus was 1 point behind in 2nd
AVG 8.5 Free was 5 points further back in 3rd
Microsoft Security Essentials was tied for 3rd

Stay away from PC Tools Antivirus Free Edition and Comodo Internet Security.

Reviews like that are unfortunately a dime a dozen. None of them ever say the same software is top, unfortunately it has to with sponsorships and $ alot of the time. Thats why I have actually tried them all out ( have sources that I am able to get most anything). Many good ones out there like those you and others have suggested. Personally I don't care for AVG, I find it adequate at best.
