Ford got out of the heavy truck business in 1997, and they sold it off to Freightliner, which called the brand Sterling. Both Freightliner and Sterling are now part of Daimler.

No. A "sterling axle" is from the factory in Sterling Heights, MI that was once a Ford plant. It is now owned by Visteon.

They are cheap trucks. We have a bunch of them on my job. We have transports, dump trucks and truck tractors. The transports have Cummins 8.3 liter turbo diesels. The dumps run Cummins 8.3 and Cat C10 diesels. The truck tractors run Cats and Detroit Diesel engines. We have had numerous problems with most of them at some point. I wouldn't buy one unless I couldn't afford a Mack or Freightliner.

so there pretty much the same as ford? but frieghtliner makes them?? Im a bit confused...oh and zero regarding the problems you guys had with your trucks, what was wrong with them the engine? cause im not a fan of cummins, all about the CAT! i think they are way more refined and run smoother.

Well, it was a Ford back in 1997, but that was a long time ago. Now that Daimler owns them, there is that influence. Some of the trucks can be had with MB engines. Other engine options are Cat, Detroit or Cummins

Take a look at this one (not a semi), obviously a Dodge
