^^^^i know what your saying mainerunr, but z06 corvette after 3rd will leave that sti in the dust, ive seen it in person and myself being in the corvette istelf. of course awd will win of the start but not in a full 1/4mile run.
im torn because it kinda depends on what kinda car you want-i didnt vote because i want both-i can build an american muscle for a lot less that will smoke a jap car in a 1/4 mile, not saying you cant make a jap car as fast but for a lot more $$$$$$$$. thats why i favor american muscle for 1/4 car, but for all around both 1/4 car and top end i would also want a twin turbo supra or gtr or whatever else-roadcoarse race car jap/asian car all the way. so therefore i would want both.

z06 and sti are acutally pretty close in 1/4, but after that topend z06 all the way.

I know a stock Z06 will leave a modded STi in the dust...the V-8 tends to win out in top end at even hp numbers. kill it in handling too but there goes your cost factor. if you're going to compare cars that cost 50k+, we need to be talking GT-r, not STi. And while I get the feeling the OP really meant more attainable cars, everyone's talking older muscle and older muscle is bringing some serious coin these days. Speaking of older muscle, guy down the street from me just got a 63 Nova SS, sounds pretty badass, I'm going to have to go take a look one of these days.

yeah thats the thing is cost factor--all depends on that and the kinda car/preference you have. but like i said-ideally i could build say an 85 hatchback mustang/ 1/4 mile car sub10's for a lot less than a jap car thats that fast.

polls look close, my next "fun" car will more than likely be a late model 4.6 mustang gt, though i'd rather have a 350z, mustangs are cheaper and so are the parts for them plus i've loved late model stangs sinse i was a little kid, i guess a 350z will be my "later down the road" vehicle as to i can;t afford one now lol.

in all reality you can build a 11 sec stang and an 11 sec civic for about the same amount. its not that expensive to build an import but if you do it yourself you can save a ton. civic shell for $1000 or less, ls swap for $1000 or less, nitrous kit for $500, and some slicks and you got yourself a quick car for less than $3000. i close freind of mine had a dx 4 door civic with a 14b eclipse turbo on it running 13.0's. he had $1200 in the whole car. later that year he had a civic hatch back that i traded him for the 4 door shell. that car went 12.80's with a ls motor and some shitty peiced together turbo kit. he had around $2000 in that car.
when you get to running 10's and 9's you really have a price difference but if you know what you are doing 12's and 11's are cake and you dont even need to build a motor. i went 12.20@117mph with a stock gsr motor and a bolt on turbo kit untuned. for $5000 i had a low 12 second import that still got 30 mpg and insurance was $12/month..do that with a domestic! this was a 4 door civic with full interior, sub, amp and all that stuff. seriously though....you can do amazing things with all cars it just takes some knowlege. if you know what you are doing you can make anything fast. its just too bad most ppl that are into imports are total fags it makes those of us that actually make power look like tools. i think we can all agree that whether you like imports or domestics both sides have their weaknesses and their strong points i would still love to have a turbo stang...that would be secks

Just for fun I typed in both civic and Mustang on Ebay. Civic came up at 37826 items, Mustang clocked in just a bit higher at 42049. Again, I live them all, if I had the space and money, I'd have the world in my garage.
