Adding brakes to a trailer
I currently have a 6x12 single axle 4 lug utility trailer that I use to haul big stuff and tow two four wheelers. The trailer does not have ANY brakes on it. That used to not be a problem because I always towed with a full size vehicle (97 Expedition, 04 Expedition, 01 F250) that all had full size truck brakes. So even towing two four wheelers (~850lbs a piece fully loaded) the vehicles stopped the trailer just fine with no significant increase in stopping distance.
However, with the Frontier, I have noticed that with even one ATV (or even with just a couch on it) I have noticed that the braking power is decreased noticeably. So, as a result, I've been thinking about getting some electric brakes on the trailer. I"m a DIY guy with automotive mechanics experience (i drive a Ford Mustang Does anyone know of some good resources for getting trailer brake kits? Anyone have any suggestions or have done this before? I'm trying to get an idea of expenses and difficulty. I figure if I can change out axles, cv joints, and differentials I can probably do this... If even a website is all then I would be appreciative. Thanks!
